I was lucky enough to break bread and prop-up several bars with Tom over the years, so I know what a genuine guy he was. His passing is a huge loss to everyone in the FS community and he'll be sorely missed.

Sending heartfelt condolences and appreciation to Tom's immediate and extended family. I cannot find words to do justice to how deeply this affects me. I just know Tom will be soaring high above and watching over us all.

Gob Bless the Allensworth Family and everyone associated with AVSIM.

With Respect and bowed head...

Along with the entire AVSIM community, I bid a fond farewell to Tom.  Most of us never had the privilege of meeting the man where he lived, but without question we have all derived benefit from his work informing and educating the online flight simulator community all these years.

My condolences thus go out not just to immediate family and friends, but also to every one of Tom's  "extended family" comprising flight sim enthusiasts, scattered across the globe. .

Adios Tom.  I tip my virtual wing in final salute.

Best regards from Tony, at the helm of the flying desk.

I have to admire the characteristically straightforward way that Tom dealt with the news of his illness, knowing that time was short.

I'd like to think that he is now able to spend time in the company of Opa, Richard Harvey, Mel Ott, Sascha Felix and other "greats" from the world of flight simulation who have Gone West before him.

Avsim, Tom's creation and first love, is a living memorial to the man - and though his physical being is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in this community.

Godspeed Tom!

I shook a man's hand the other day.  I spoke to him about something unimportant during a meeting I would soon forget.  We saw and heard each other and yet, there was nothing said nor anything listened to.

There was another man, who I never met nor spoke to.  I never shook his hand.  I didn't even know his name.

The difference is this: one of these men was my friend.  I know I've lost a friend because of the pain his passing brings.  It is not by proximity, but by action, that we touch those around us and make a difference in their lives.  This thing that he made, this being that breathes life into our virtual world of flight, was one that makes a great difference.

Behind every page, every file, every message, there is a person saying something we should listen to, even if it's just to share a kind thought.  As one of those souls who touched so many, he leaves a legacy; I will still hear him in the halls of this place he built.

And I will miss him.

SO well said.  We will all miss Tom, and will honor him by continuing to be the strong community that loved what he loved.

Thank you Tom.
