Reality XP's Sandel SN3308 is a very nice piece of work!

Featured Replies

I purchased the new Sandel from Reality XP last night and finally got to put it through its paces. As is typical of Reality XP's flight instruments, this one is very complete relative to the real instrument. There are many options available for the display screens as well as an integrated storm scope! The first thing I noticed was the fluidity of the display. R XP's work is starting to rival Project Magenta and X-Plane in terms of instrument smoothness and response. They have a download available to out fit your Dream Fleet A36 now and the combo is really complete. If you enjoy updating your planes with glass instruments, I recommend you consider this one. Frame rates are not an issue, however, I have a high end (at least this week:)) system. You might want to check this one out. Have fun!Bob...

Bob:Thanks for the report. I have RXP's JP2 and WX500 and have really enjoyed them in Aeroworx B200 and the PMDG B1900C/D. Their products and support are among the best in the business.Just curious, what aircraft are you using the SN3308 in? Did installation go easily?Regards,Wilson

Hi Wilson,There is a "user file" created by Reality XP that incorporates the guage into Dreamfleet's A36 availabe for download. Works perfectly with the 430. Installation took 30 seconds. :)Bob...

There is a config manager, just like with their other products. That gets the .ini file into the airplane file and the popup into the panel at startup. I use the config manager, then use FSPS to install the gauge into the panel. I have installed into the Eaglesoft Citation II, the PMDG B1900C and the Aerosoft Beaver with no problems at all. It is a great addition to the simmer's toy box.

Steve:Right, I am aware of the config manager, but never cared much for it. I prefer to integrate the gauges into the actual 2d and virtual panels, rather than just have a pop-up. It takes a little more work, but the realism factor is quite a bit better. I did one for the 1900C, but it took me a while to get everything placed properly. It sounds like someone has already come up with the config for the SN3308.Thanks,Wilson

I usually put new gauges into the 2D and VC panels, and into the other windows that are a part of the aircraft package. I use the config program to config them, when appropriate, and get the .ini, if there is one, into the aircraft folder. I seldom use the popup after that. Usually, it takes about 10 minutes at most to install a gauge into a plane using FSPS.

I guess Microsoft spoiled me. I enjoy the terrain display on their GPS, but I guess it isn't realistic? Anyway I can't live without that anymore and until somebody puts that in as an option I will enjoy the default!

oops! Wrong thread, this looks like a nice gauge. I confused this thread and the GPS thread!

I added the Sandel,Garmin 430 and the WX500 weather radar (in the VC) to the Pilatus. The whole package is just excellent. I really like having the primary instruments BIG and on one view. Plus this is my first attempt at modifying a panel using FS Panel Studio.

The Sandel 3308 is a 4"x4" instrument, which is about the size of the Pilatus' altimeter... ;)

Not in my world! :) I'm aware the actual instrument is about 3"x3", however, since I own the Sandel company in my simulated world, they made me a big one!:) The idea of sacrificing the ability to read the darn thing on behalf of "realism" is a bit much for me. Thanks for the comment. :)Bob...

Two thumbs up on this one from me.I bought Ike Slack's SN3308 (when he was partnered with Reality XP) a few years back, and liked the gauge, but it seemed that every time RXP had a version upgrade on the 530, it would break the GPS interface to Ike's gauge, and it would take Ike months to release an update, if at all. Then he joined up with Eaglesoft and as part of that deal all upgrade paths to owners of the original product were cut off, and I wrote off the 3308.So...it's nice to have an even better gauge to take its place, with features like moving map and stormscope actualy implemented rather than just promised...and I think it unlikely that future upgrades to the Reality XP GNS530/430 units will be breaking their own version of the Sandel gauge.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300
