FTX Global Terrain.cfg error

Recommended Posts

Just purchased & installed Orbx FTX Global last night and when launching the the program during the final phase of the installation process I got this error:

"System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'E:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\terrain.cfg'.

File name: 'E:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\terrain.cfg'"

So I tricked the it by creating a new file terrain.cfg in P3D folder, program launches, but its saying no "Land Class"...info I got from LM P3D forum suggest, I get a copy of the terrain.cfg from the program data folder, copy to the Prepar3D v2 folder as a work around--not sure if this is the proper way of doing this or could cause other issues while running P3D?

thanks in advance for any response.

The file structure of P3D changed in Version 2.5, and the installer for FTX Global predates that change, which is why the installer can't find the terrain.cfg

There is a simple solution. Go to the main ORBX web site, and download and install the latest ORBXLIBS from the support area - it will fix the error. The ORBXLIBS are updated on a regular basis, and the latest version should always be installed as the very last step when adding any ORBX/FTX product to your FSX or P3D system.

Oddly enough I did exactly the same last night, did what Jim said, and it worked fine after that. I figured (and have had it in the past) that the version of the software you download from a reseller isn't always the latest version, so I generally go to the developer's site and see if there are any updates I need to do.

Yes computers are dumber than a sack full of hammers and I've never had a problem tricking them.  Thanks for the info Jim I'll try to retain that in my human computer which at times is also as dumb as a sack full of hammers.

If the Orbx libraries  fix the error, but they are the last Orbx file you install, how does that help you if you first need to install FTX Global with the old installer?  Is my understanding correct that the workaround proposed is to install the Libraries first, before installing FTX Global?

The libraries INCLUDE the new FTX Central 2. It `knows` the new folder structure and places the files correctly. I don't think order matters.
