Help with activating FSX for the first time from the DVDs.

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

Well, it's been 8 years in the waiting to install FSX, as now I have a machine that should run it very well, hopefully:

  • i7-4790K 4.0Ghz
  • Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark I
  • 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM 1600Mhz
  • 500GB Crucial SSD
  • 2TB Western Digital HD
  • EVGA 750W 80 Plus Gold PSU
  • Nvidia GTX 970 4GB (with latest driver)
  • Windows 7 Pro

I got in my hands on a, new in plastic, FSX Deluxe.   I know that MS does not have the activation servers up anymore and I will have to call 800-537-8324 to activate it.

Two questions:

  1. Will there be a code of some sort displayed on the installation process that I have to tell Microsoft activation, or is it on the Certificate of Authenticity numbers on the package itself?
  2. Can I install the two updates (patches) for FSX before activation?

Any other suggestions or other information will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

Many others have said that Microdoft's activation servers are still running. Who told you they weren't?

The Product key is on an orange sticker just above the DVD's in the format

The activation servers will be in place for a long time since they do more than activate just FSX.

If I remember correctly, the activation should happen at the end of installing disc 2.  Then

you can proceed to install the Service Packs.

No phone call will be necessary and you activate when running FSX for the first time.

Then start a flight and shut down FSX.

Install SP1, start a flight, and shut down FSX.

Install SP2, start a flight and you are all done.

Thanks everybody!    Just got around to install FSX this afternoon, activated OK and all SPs installed OK.

Reason I thought that the servers were down is because I read older threads here where people had to call in after MS shut the servers down, some time ago, and did not see any threads that they were back up.

Now to read up on Nick N.'s FSX tweaks tonight, and work from there.    I will want to use ADEX soon, so I will need to install the SDK, which I believe is on Disk 2 if I recall correctly.
