I enjoy the GTA series, but it is a game about crime. The eye candy just makes it a pretty looking game about crime.

Hmm. I've played these games all my life and haven't commited any crimes beyond speeding. It has to do with the person and who they are not the games they play. Chances are these same folks would have committed these crimes even if they had never played a video game or watched a violent movie

I've played GTA, COD, Battlefield etc, and I watch porn. I haven't committed any such crimes, nor has it ever crossed my mind.

What'd we do before TV and video games? Oh, right.

Don't believe everything you read. Academic papers and studies are setup to get results on hypotheses. You can prove anything if you have the right set of circumstances.  Look deeper into those papers and specifically those who were studied and you will find deeper underlying issues completely not associated with the forms of entertainment they chose.

 

And in terms of OP - GTA is amazing. The world they have built I could spend hours and hours in...

Argument from authority. IE the person making the argument has X amount of experience, degrees etc, and hence must be right. Of course, in such cases, the person citing said conclusions can choose very carefully which "authorities" to reference.

While certain criminals may watch certain movies, for example, not everyone watching those movies is bound to be a criminal. Neither does that correlation prove (already/on its own) that certain movies trigger a particular criminal behaviour.

I have respect for women and hate violence so avoid that kind of 'entertainment'. But if you enjoy 'entertainment' that bashes and rapes women, as you must of course, keep playing. I won't stop you.

I don't "enjoy" seeing a woman "bashed and raped", and I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of the AVSIM membership think likewise. However, if we did see something like that, it isn't going to suddenly turn us into murdering rapists.
