Why GTA V is so much more than a game about crime!

Recommended Posts

The entire line of GTA has sold more than 125 million copies. I don't think there's anything that links those sales numbers with a rise in violent crime... especially since in many areas violent crime is going down, not up (US is a great example of that with violent crime rates dropping to 1970's era rates). In short... the claims that creates violent individuals don't match reality.

If you enioy singing, you sing.

If you enjoy car racing, you watch it.

If you enjoy opera, you watch it.

If you hate opera, you won't watch it.

If you hate golf, you won't watch it.

It you hate violence, you won't commit violence

If you hate the thought of a woman getting raped, you won't commit a rape

If you hate the sexualisation of women, you won't watch degrading pornography.

Fixed that for ya.

Only those who enjoy seeing a woman bashed and raped as 'entertainment', make such arguments.

I have respect for women and hate violence so avoid that kind of 'entertainment'. But if you enjoy 'entertainment' that bashes and rapes women, as you must of course, keep playing. I won't stop you.

You do what you enjoy doing. :)

As for GTA I made the video to show that you can focus on other things in the game. Yesterday I took a submarine and explores the breathtaking underwater landscape and marine life then I hoped in my boat and went for a moon light cruise around the island. Then I hopped in my helicopter and flew to the summit of the tallest mountian and took in the view of the moon light on the country side and the lights of the city in the distance.... Sound like a really violent day Huh.

As for your other argument

I respect women too and don't watch porn but because I have no interest in it as I have a girlfriend.

But no one forces the girls to do porn or strip they choose to do that, maybe out of desperation but it's a choice they make. Most strippers I know do it because it pays a lot and it's easy work. As I guy I can honestly say I'd be a male stripper if I needed the money. If somone wants to pay me good money to show off what I see in the shower fine....easy money and more addons hahaha. Id also do porn I mean come on getting paid to do that.... "Every man's dream job"

As a player of the GTA series, I regret to say this topic was ok until talking about porn, strippers, and the like.  While this is ok among adults.. please keep in mind we do have many kids on here as well, and I don't want this to be a reason why mom and dad don't want them learning more about flight sim @ AVSIM.

With that being said, can we realign the discussion to focus more on the Simulation qualities of the game?  I can say that the parts I enjoyed the most were the flying parts and putzing around in the heli's since I absolutely suck at controlling them on landing in FSX.

I'm thinking about buying this game. But, I have learned that I only play those games to

the end or find replayability in them that have a story line in single player.

Does GTA V have a story line? Like eg Maffia II or Alien Isolation (loved those titles).

Thanks,

Here here.   Excellently said, Chase.

This thread so far, leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  Not because it's about GTA (which I personally don't like due to the themes which it does present and portray), but because of some of the subject matter being dragged up.    Whether violence in TV & Video game culture can cause some individuals to act out horrific crimes is a hotly disputed area.   In general I say no, but on a more holistic, societal scale, the fact that we 'tolerate' and accept increasingly violent and depraved content on TV and in games, could, subtly and slowly, lead us to a more violent society.    My mind's not made up on this ; on some subjects it's best to keep an open mind and accept that there might not yet be evidence either way, to justify a 'black or white' opinion.

The flight sequences certainly look impressive.

What'd we do before TV and video games? Oh, right.

Thanks,

It has a single player storyline and it has the online portion in which you create a character and play as that person throughout the online world your online character is saved every time you exit so you progress across time

Dear Jon,

If this topic is not for you then kindly step out of the thread and leave it for others, I agree GTA may not be for everyone but no need in throwing a spanner in the works just because it is not a game for you. This is a popular game so I would say the needs of the majority out way the needs of the few, or in this case the one (being you). Hope you find something fun to do with your day instead of this.

Cheers Mate

I agree, GTA4 has been a fun distraction from FSX and I look forward to GTA5, just out of the budget at the moment, but I will follow how others are finding it online for the mean time.

Also it is technology like GTA5 that moves gaming and simulation forward as it seems to be the first title to take 64-bit gaming to a new level as well. Hopefully Flight Sim can catch up someday

Just a lil FYI to add to actual fun talk part of this thread....

GTA5 is the most expensive game ever produced - $265 million - that's wild!

I'll tell you what, I was walking through the water in GTA V  (I don't normally try these types of games but had to see what the hype was about with my TitanX) and when I looked down it was literally like looking at real water flowing by, it was unreal...  Managed to find a boat last night and it really felt like I was hitting every swell!  It is just a fabulous open world experience!

YTZpilot?

I did step out with my last post. Interesting gamers also become 'experts' on human behaviour.

All is said is, if you enjoy watching degrading things like women getting raped and pornography and love violence, by all means play the game and watch the videos becasue that's your thing and you enjoy it . I don't and have respect for women and hate violence so don't watch and play.

Not that hard to understand is it?

Jon,

I fear you have again crossed a line, you are making horrible generalizations and assumptions and trying to connect dots that don't exist.  I quite frankly am deeply deeply offended that you think that playing this game means you enjoy watching degrading things like women getting raped, pornography and love violence.  I DON'T enjoy ANY of those thing but you know what, I do enjoy the open world and effects of GTAV and seeing what my Titan X could do at high resolution with a modern game like this.

Quite frankly, what you are saying IS that hard to understand because it makes ABSOLUTELY no sense and is making horrible generalizations and rash judgmental assumptions.  I do not appreciate your comments at all.

This thread should be closed appropriately which is a shame.

That's a bit of bad luck.

Simple, if you hate it, you don't watch it or arent entertainment by it. If you enjoy it, you are entertained buy it.

^ fact.

Don't like it? Dont care.

But you do care enough to hijack this  entire thread to impose your own viewpoint and false assumptions on the rest of us.

I have reported the thread to be closed, you have crossed a line on what is appropriate discussion for a flightsim audience of all ages from all over the globe.  They do not need to be reading that if they play GTAV they enjoy watching Rape, pornography, beating women or violence because that is what you THINK is fact.   Not to mention there are a LARGE number of women playing GTAV, not just porno watches who enjoy watching women being beaten or raped...  I mean what horrible things to say!!!

I have had GTAV since release and come to think of it I haven't seen a single incident of violence against a woman and the one time I did accidentally hit one by mistake when trying to press the control to open a door I actually got beaten by a bunch of male bystanders who stood up for her!!!   You just have no clue and have formulated your own decision without any knowledge at all then went on to make false accusations based on false assumptions and declare them fact.

Long-term study finds zero link between violence in video games and real life.

http://www.sciencealert.com/definitive-study-finds-zero-link-found-between-video-game-and-youth-violence

Shhhhhh!!!!  Don't confuse the reality we have all referenced with scientific studies with what Jon has declared as fact...

Actually no. The OP already did that when he stated the game isn't 'only about crime'. An illegal activity.

Like I said , if you hate violence and rape, you won't be entertained by it. That's fact. You can't change it. sorty, if it doesn't suit your viewpoint, not my problem. That's reality though.

No Jon, he posted to talk about how immersive GTAV could be outside of the aspect of violence altogether which is exactly the use case I have adopted it for as well.  The vast variety of vehicles to drive, the world to drive them in, the boats on the water, the sunrises and sunsets on the hills overlooking the city are the best I have ever seen on a computer.  YOU and YOU alone took this thread down the path of pornography, rape, beating women and violence all tied to generalizations, assumptions, accusations and condemnation of ANYONE who happens to like this game.
