Need New Yoke - Which one?

Consider the following:

1. Saitek Pro Flight Yoke $145

2. Saitek Pro Flight Cessna Yoke $195

3. CH Products Eclipse Yoke $194

 

Prices are current at Amazon for comparison.

 

My questions:

 

1. Ignoring price, is any one of these significantly better/worse than the others?

2. Considering price, are the Saitek Cessna and/or the CH Eclipse $50 better than the

standard Saitek Pro Flight?

I have the pro flight yoke. It gets the job done.  The cessna yoke has an inflated price because of the cesssna name. Can't speak for the Eclipse product. Let's put it this way, I've had it for over a year, I am not looking for something better.

I used a CH Eclipse for years, until I decided to open it up and screw it up... I replaced it with a Saitek Pro Flight Yoke and HATE it compared to the Eclipse for the following reasons:

1. Detents on the X and Y Axes SUCK (CH Eclipse doesn't have any)
2. Calibration Issues on the X Axis
3. Saitek Software SUCKS
4. Less buttons, one less POV

The only thing I like more about the Saitek Yoke is that the clamp for the desk works much better than the two clamps on the CH Eclipse.

 

As always, these are just my humble opinions and experience.

I'm currently using a Saitek Cessna Yoke, which I've had for a couple of years.  I did remove one of the centering springs to improve the feel of the elevator axis (which voids the warranty, I believe).  I did not consider the CH Eclipse.  It's very odd looking, with the extra controls, etc. (does not resemble an aircraft yoke to me).

 

After modification, I really like the feel of the Saitek, and the 180 degree travel on the aileron axis.  I use a 100% silicone spray lubricant (available at most auto parts stores) on the shaft every 3 to 4 months, keeping the shaft travel very smooth.

I've just picked up a Saitek Cessna yoke - I owned a CH for years and it was good (until it died), then wasted a hunk of cash on the Saitek Pro. I rapidly upgraded to the Cessna and haven't looked back.

Like the OP, I'm thinking about a yoke as well and the 180* seems like kind of a deal-sealer to me...

 

I void the warranty of tinker with everything I own but I'd rather not do that on something that costs $200 unless there are some good, tried-and-true mods out there...

If you're interested, send me a private message.  I just got a new PFC yoke and will be willing to sell my Saitek Pro Flight yoke pretty reasonable.  There isn't a thing wrong with it, I just wanted a high end yoke.

Personally I would not get this again I would buy the version with separate throttle what I mean is this Cessna version does not have a separate usb throttle it plugs into the yoke and I find it a real pain when configuring it - the throttle does not appear as a separate unit in your controllers panel in sim menu - I just ordered another usb version - if I was to do over again I would have gotten the saitek yoke with separate throttle quadrant - this really comes into play with aerosoft airbus having nothing but problems - hopefully new quadrant will fix that - just my 2 cents - you have to buy a power supply for it if you plan on using the usb hubs in the yoke - does not come with it - for that price that is just ridiculous

In any way, shop around. In my experience, Amazon is often among the most expensive sellers when it comes to hardware.

Indentations on the elevator and aileron axes makes the Saitek products (Cessna and otherwise), a no go for me. I have owned both and still own the Cessna version though its in a box in storage. I am not real good with my hand and have not figured out a way around the indentations. I went back to my trusty CH USB yoke.

 

The Saitek yokes (especially the Cessna ver.) has a better look and feel to it than the CH products. I have never heard of a real airplane that had indentations on these axes.

 

 I have found that simulator airplanes are actually harder to control than their real world counterparts, I found the indentations on the controllers made it that much harder and unrealistic for me. I could not make minute movements from center without contending with the indentations. This translated to me flying the trim rather than trimming to hold pitch.

    I have been using the Pro Flight yoke for about 7 years now, without any issue. The pro flight yoke I have, came with the serial bus (round) plug on the throttle as well. I have since replaced it with a pair of the usb throttle quadrants for flying the Q400.

 Other than having to clean and oil it, it has performed flawlessly. I will be replacing it soon with an Iris Dynamics haptic control yoke. If I were to buy another Saitek yoke, I would go for the Cessna version.
