My 2nd monitor is not being recognised

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I bought s small second monitor to run alongside my 4K Phillips 40'.  I primarily want to use it for things like Avliasoft EFB, Vattastic, ASN etc...

Anyway, so my videocard is an Asus 970 Strix which has three connection ports - 1 x DP, 1 x HDMI and 1 x DVI/ .  My main monitor is running off the DP connection.

My 2nd monitor is a Dell E1715S with 1 x VGA port and 1 x DP.  I am using the DP connector on my new monitor with a DP/HDMI adaptor going into the videocard.   However, the new monitor is not being recognised in W7 or in the Nvidia Control panel.    When I turn it on i get a message saying  'no VGA connection found' (or something similar - seems to be looking for VGA .  I have selected my preferred connection type on the new monitor's menu as  Display Port, but still no luck, and the monitor immediately goes into 'sleep mode'.  I have now ordered VGA/HDMI adaptor in the hope that this works - but this shouldn't be the solution.  It should be workign off DP?

Anything I might be doing wrong?  With W7, I thought it was a simple case of plugging in the monitor and switching on the PC

Yes sounds a bit weird.

I guess you have checked the Dell works by it's self connected directly via DP cable?

Don't suppose the TV has DP out so you could daisy chain the Dell off it?
