Hello there I know that this is asked very often but I was wondering if my new mac that is coming will work very well on fsx 50+ fps with pdmg 747 at high or ultra graphics. The spec are cpu:4.0GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.4GHz memory:2GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x8GB storage:3TB Fusion Drive graphics:AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5. Computer is the retina 5K mac. I would really hope for a reply soon since i am getting the new computer soon and it would help influence my decision. I probably won't use much of add-on scenery but will use pdmg 777 with active-sky and high or ultra graphics also with ultimate traffic maxed out or near max. Thank you. If that doesn't work will this one work CPU:

  • 3.5GHz 6-core with 12MB of L3 cache. Graphics:64GB (4 x 16GB) of 1866MHz DDR3 ECC Storage:1TB PCIe-based flash storage. GPU:Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM each. Thank you again and really hope that the first one will work because it is about 2 grand cheaper.

You have no chance of seeing 50+ FPS on either of those computers. In fact, there is no way to see 50+ on any computer I know of with those add-ons. 20+ FPS maybe. But 50+ FPS...no way.

AMD GPU's don't play nice with FSX.  Swap it out with a NVIDIA Card.

Not a chance.

As Doug said no computer on the market today will do that.

The weak link is the graphics card. Those are laptop video cards in the iMac. Just not up to the job. It has a Passmark score of 4956... about on par with a GTX 760. A GTX 980 is 9704... nearly double the power. And IT won't do NEAR 50 fps.

Doug's suggestion won't work, as the video cards cannot be changed in an iMac. The other issue is that you will likely not be able to find Windows drivers for that graphics card. At least that was the issue in past iMacs I've tried to run under Boot Camp.

All that said... SURE you can run FSX on it. Just don't expect unrealistic frame rates. My experience was that it ran better on the Mac than on a Windows machine. And that screen is BEAUTIFUL. But in reality it is just a big laptop with a pretty screen.

Yeah 50 + fps is a big expectation but will it at least work well. Thank you for your replies but I really don't want to buy a pc mostly because it is a pain to maintain and I've gotten a lot of headaches from the only pc computer that i bought. Thanks for your replies
