May 4, 201511 yr This hobby has a way to come back and smack one in the face. No ASN, no EFB, no PFPX. Despite unchecking all the Add-on sceneries from the Scenery Library, not loading ASN, but using an Orbx airport, Palm Springs, the VAS readout while climbing out comes tumbling down from 1.5Gb+ to around 970Mb, then starts to creep to 1Gb, then drop back again.I have absolutely no idea what the heck is going on, but I reckon I will undo all Nick's mods. No issues with OOM/VAS using the Q8-400 but depletion with the PMDG 737. Is it really such a VAS heavy hitter? This cannot go one like this. If it is the 737's fault, then time to ditch it. I want to enjoy this hobby not have it go belly-up within one hour!! Rick Almeida
May 4, 201511 yr There is thread on simforums, that started out as a "thanks NickN" sort of thing, which has morphed into NickN giving advice on tuning P3D with an accompanying plethora of screen shots showing his results. Thought I'd never live to see this happen. Maybe it's time for me jump ship too. share the link please Pedro Rodriguez

May 4, 201511 yr The thing that the link has taught me is just how good P3d with Orbx,s scenery looks, frankly those picks look awful to me! or is it my tablet playing up? Peter

The question is, Rick - does it continue to go down and ultimately crash or can you make it? I've similar situations where after an hour or so, I'd get an occasional "ding" but I'd be able to finish the flight and have maybe 300mb left. I've found the VAS goes up and down in big jumps depending on scenery, etc but not always enough to OOM. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
May 4, 201511 yr Vic, only a short flight, from Orbx's Palm Springs to Orbx's Monterey with none of the add-ons as in my previous post. And I just made it with about 500Mb to spare. I most certainly would have had an OOM had I gone any further.. What I cannot fathom is this, the Majestic Q8-400 is a very good aircraft if not quite in the upper echelons of the PMDG 737-600, I have no OOM issues. I decided to test my comfort zone having made Nick's amends with the 737-600, and nearly got caught out. Luckily I had saved a pre-Nick cfg, and have reverted to that. I'll make another same flight, same aircraft, same pair of Orbx airports and report back later. Yes, I too had that yaw-yawing of the VAS going up to 1034Mb, then down into the 906Mb, then back up again. Rick Almeida
May 4, 201511 yr Moderator Do you have Orbx NCA installed? That is a big resource hog. Rob or someone posted some batch files to adjust settings when using it. It was in this forum, a few months back. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
May 4, 201511 yr Hi Vic Guess what? Like I stated before, same scenario flight as previously but with a different non-Nick cfg. Just about to start descent and throughout the flight VAS threshold has been no less that 1.3Gb-1.4Gb. I do not quite rightly know whether to blink twice, or to be incredulous that just by reverting to a non-Nick cfg, I've had this result. The acid test will come when I load ASN, EFB, check-in all the entries in the Scenery Library which I have currently unchecked except for the default sceneries and the relevant Orbx for where I'm headed for. Would be interesting to locate those batch files. Rick Almeida
May 4, 201511 yr I was getting worried for a while about who this stranger was espousing the plusses of P3D...well today we're back to the good ol' Nick we know
May 5, 201511 yr What I cannot fathom is this, the Majestic Q8-400 is a very good aircraft if not quite in the upper echelons of the PMDG 737-600, I have no OOM issues. That's because the Q400 uses external process to inject into the sim. I did not apply NickN recommendation to push LOD to 6.5 and bumped up autogen. I kept mine at 5.5 and lowered autogen. Keeping all of his other tweaks actually lowered memory usage for me. I also use ASN and REX as well. Vu Pham i7-13700K 5.2 GHz OC, 64 GB RAM, RTX5090, SSD for Sim, SSD for system. May 5, 201511 yr Hi Brian No, not using any of his Autogen settings. But at the same time, am not sure what it currently is set to. What is yours set to? That setting is in the Prepar3D.cfg, right? I thought it had to be the PMDG 737. Making another try. I am using Normal Trees and Normal Buildings with EXTREMELY DENSE for the Custom Scenery sliders in my menu options. Works like a charm. The big test will be tomorrow when I do my longest flight I've attempted in the 737NGX, an almost 5 hour flight from Las Vegas to Washington Dulles. Both airports are payware and I'll have ASN running full tilt like usual with FTX Global running the ground texture show. If I make it the whole way I will consider the case for Nick's guide closed and bask in the glory that is my fully smooth and graphical gorgeous simulator. May 5, 201511 yr Maybe the PMDG 737NGX is one of those "BS" planes that Nick was talking about? Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
