I was going to try the settings of Nick, then I saw the ugly images he posted and I remained with my excellent settings.

thanks for posting this .... I thought I was the only one that felt that way :)

After numerous flights in P3D+ASN+Orbx airports using the Majestic Q8-400, without a stutter, without a OOM, switched to PMDG's 737-600,and with minutes to landing, bang, a VAS crash.

Wonder what caused that? Any ideas?

If the settings you already have are working then why are you even in here trying to fan the flames of rage for or against Nick?    Leave the politics out.   His guide works, period.  For those who don't need it, go find another thread instead of slinging monkey poop around the room.   It doesn't matter if he hates ORBX, or Flightbeam, or your pet goldfish.   The technical aspect of the guide is solid and works and that is what this thread is about not your love or hate of the man or his turning around.  You know.. it is okay for someone to change their mind about something right?

Thats a mystery, my P3D with the settings Nick posted looks beautiful. In addition I've gained tremendous 'smoothness' (60 FPS) -- its like a new sim.

Hi there,

I think you'll find that if you do any VFR flying near a large water mass, you'll be sorely disappointed, as his recommended settings switch off all the amazing and beautiful water feature settings that P3D offers in comparison to FSX.

Cheers,

Jerome

If you are using his guide, do NOT use those high Autogen settings.   The PMDG hogs to much VAS to allow for such high autogen to work along side it.  I turned mine down to Normal and have not had as VAS crash since then.

Hi Brian

No, not using any of his Autogen settings. But at the same time, am not sure what it currently is set to. What is yours set to? That  setting is in the Prepar3D.cfg, right?

I thought it had to be the PMDG 737. Making another try.

Now THAT'S nailing it! Every system is different and different a/c react differently. With the high resolution a/c and scenery, we MUST make adjustments for how and where we fly. If you are going to go low and slow in a Maule - crank 'em up - if your not, tone 'em down. There is NO "one size fits all" in flight sim.

Nick's system guides are second to none - his FSX and P3D guides are determined by his experience AND his personal preferences. He doesn't really like "eye candy" but some of us do - so we adjust accordingly.

I honestly wonder just how long the guide would be if all of the bombastic rhetoric were stripped out? :Raised Eyebrow:

Whilst I agree with many of your comments, unfortunately I do not see any of the "amazing and beautiful" water features in P3D (apart from the animated ripples at low level with water set to ULTRA). I use Rex Essentials Plus SP3 (which is supposed to make the water look a lot better), but the texture sheet is dull and completely static above a thousand feet. Totally lifeless. I really wish I could solve this problem, because it is annoying the hell out of me. The REX Sparkling texture set that I used in FSX DX9 mode (until I switched to P3D last August) was light years ahead in terms of quality and realism :(

Bill,

After taking a break from the hobby for awhile, I thought I might pop in and see what is new. Obviously I dialed the gate wrong as I seem to have ported into 10 year old bombastic rhetoric.

Apparently even those who remember the past are doomed to repeat it...

Kind regards,

Brother Stephen! It's so very nice to see your smiling face again. :Big Grin:

I'll send a note to Stargate Command to recalibrate the bloody thing. Again. :LMAO:

I do prefer FSX DX9 water too, but with REX4 (REX3 SP3 does not seem as good) I can get very close to something I consider as good, but I tend to only fly very low, so perhaps I'm not getting the static effect you see higher up; I will have to check it out.

Edit at 2000ft I'm still seeing motion in the water. The fine animations are there but in a fairly tight radius, and the broader texture slowly moves too. Was FSX any different in this regard?.

I honestly wonder just how long the guide would be if all of the bombastic rhetoric were stripped out? :Raised Eyebrow:

I think it'll be down to the size of Rob's original guide...with potentially some of the same conclusions

Either way...nice to see how time and experience have mellowed positions! It is May the fourth, so welcome to the dark side.

Novation,

At 2000 feet, my water textures are as dead as a Dodo. I see no animation whatsoever. In FSX DX9 I could see those lovely moving reflections on the water that gave the illusion of waves, but there are none at all in P3D. I had exactly the same problem with FSX in DX10 mode (using Steve's DX10 Fixer). Very disappointing :(

Then it seems REX4 does things differently to REX3 in P3Dv2.

Just checked @3000ft and stopping in slew mode (as I can't tell while flying at this height) I can see the main texture moving (though very slowly) and the finer animation constantly moving and glinting in the sun - hard to see without the sun specular though.
