P3D stops responding after loading 737

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Whenever I select a 737 model in the Aircraft selection menu, everything is fine, but problems start when I go back to the main screen. The aircraft model in the little window is rotating but at very low FPS (~4FPS - not normal). As soon as I click on any other button on the menu (e.g. Change Airport), the plane stops spinning and P3D becomes unresponsive. The program doesn't crash, it just hangs.

I can load any other aircraft and start up the sim fine. But when I go to 'Change Vehicle' and change to the 737 and press OK, I just get a black screen. Again, P3D doesn't really *crash*, just nothing happens.

Here is the debug log:

I've reinstalled P3D and 737NGX multiple times but to no avail. I haven't been able to load up the 737 in the sim at all.

Help please! :(

Thanks,

P.S. I did get a little message box asking for the license key the first time I loaded the 737, and that was fine. But after that I ran into the problems described above.

P.P.S. I'm using Prepar3D v2.5 (newly bought yesterday!).

EDIT: Jeez, sorry about the multiple threads! :o I kept getting an 'AVSIM is over capacity/undergoing maintenance" when submitting the topic. Guess my computer hates me today in particular...

Thomas, AVSIM is always slow as molasses when entering a new thread.  It's a nuisance but all you can do it wait, your post worked the first time.

Maybe it is a sound device problem... Make sure you have the correct sound device selected in P3D (use a default aircraft to check this). Then if that allows you to load PMDG, make sure the sound device in the FMS PMDG Options is correct too.  There are three locations that must agree, Windows, P3D and PMDG.

Also, make sure you read the READ ME included with the installer for P3D users and give the simConnect suggestion a try.

Thank you for the reply downscc.

I loaded a Mooney Bravo and changed the sound drivers from the automatic setting to the specific drivers, but didn't help.

I installed SimConnect (three times) but that didn't help either. Actually, I'm not sure if it installed correctly - when I click on the .msi file a box pops up with a green bar for a few seconds then goes away. Is that supposed to happen?

Yes, running the SimConnect installer is not much of an event.  You can verified they are installed by using Control Panel / Remove Programs to see list of installed stuff.. don't have to remove anything to look at list.

So it your SimConnect interfaces are correct, and your audio device is selected, then the last idea I can come up with is perhaps you have a problem in the dll.xml file.  You can open a trouble ticket at PMDG Product Support web portal (support.precisionmanuals.com) and include a copy of the dll.xml file.  Note support accounts are separate from sales accounts and you may need to create one.

Thanks, I've just sent a ticket. The dll.xml looks pretty normal to me.

I'm very curious about the debug log. Why won't the 737NGX 'update systems' once and for all?

The issue turned out to be that I had Prepar3D installed on an external USB 3.0 hard disk drive. The data transfer between the main internal C:\ drive and the external drive was insufficient to support the 737NGX. The problem vanished when I reinstalled P3D on my C:\ drive.
