FPS Drop On Approach!

Recommended Posts

That was my experience with DX9 with various hardware configurations

Ahh. so typical for you and not for the community!

I hope that statement about stutters and a FPS drop was typical for you and not for the community also!

I have 64bit

I have MEMFIX, BUFFERPOOLS, VSYNC (Window Mode) tweaks added

Any other obvious ones I have forgotten?

CPU affinity?

I saw I lot of similiar posts about fps drop and stutters in DX9, but of course not all simmers have this issues, FSX is a strange beast. :) I had that bad luck to experience every single DX9 culprit, sadly. The only cure for fps drops that I've used is to change LOD or scenery complexity during flight, it seems that is a some kind of a memory leak problem.

A totally inaccurate post. Thousands of us use DX9 and don't get a FPS loss on approach.

I agree, I've never even tried DX10 but my frames remain constant on approach. The only time there might be a small drop is when the airport scenery and AI start filling in as I approach.

It doesn't matter because FSX is a 32 bit program.

Edit: What we really could be looking at is his FSX.cfg file and see if the necessary tweaks have been applied.

Also we should see if his CPU is running at full speed through the BIOS and through any utilities.

It does regarding VAS. On 32 bit after 3 GB you face crash therefore in the range of 2.5 slowdowns may be visible. Maybe I confused it but I think this was the case in many situations?

Your statement *IS* accurate.  Just because other community members have had no problems with DX9 does not mean DX9 is not the cause of the slow down.  When I used Steve's DX10 Fixer it brought new life to my poorly performing DX9 garbage heap.   It ran far smoother, crashed far less often and that was without me having to tweak anything that the DX10 Fixer didn't do on its own.   It made the experience far more hassle free and allowed me to prolong the life of FSX for a while longer.     DX9 works for some, great.  Good for you.  Dismissing DX9 as the culprit on other people's system though is silly as it CAN be a giant performance murder machine on certain hardware setups and improperly balanced simulation settings.  DX10 is far more forgiving for those who don't have a software engineering degree in futility.

Hi,

I have very similiar problem… fps drops (to about ~10) on approach. After landing, when taxi to the gate, fps sometimes back to normal (about 25 fps). For example it happens on arrive to payware EPKK or freeware EDDF…

Sometimes there is another issue – on approach, FSX freezes once but on several seconds! (it not responding). It looks like it has to load huge amount of scenery data (?)

For example it often happens on approach to payware DDesign EPWA + Warsaw City sceneries.

After this freezing, there is also fps drop.

I have Windows 10 and FSX:SE (I don’t have FSX box and FSX:SE was installed on clean Windows). I use DX10 mode with DX10 Fixer. I fly only on PMDG aircrafts.

Other addons: ORBX Global, Vector, OpenLC_EU, FreeMeshX, REX4, ASN, FSFX Precipit and Immersions for PMDG aircrafts, WoAI traffic and vPilot to connect VATSIM, FSCaptain, GSX, FS2CREW, EZCA.

Hardware: i5 2500K@4.3 GHz, 8GM RAM, GTX660Ti 2GB.

How can I resolve it, what settings should I change/set?

Hi Friends,

any ideas?

Hi Lucas,

Good news and bad news:

Good) NZCH is known to be extremely heavy on performance for an unknown reason. So it is not an issue with you sim/setup. Even on the highest power rigs it still drops to 10-20 FPS.

Bad) Orbx have decided that they are not going to bother updating it so we just have to live with it. Christchurch is my hometown but even I refuse to fly there in P3D because of the above issues.

Maybe should I set UsePools=0?

Many people say that it improve fps even in SE...

What about AffinityMask? In "classic" FSX I had it set with value =14. Maybe in SE it is also needed...?

I added UsePools=0 but it doesn't help. Yesterday, on "light" scenery of EDDL (downloaded from AVSIM) I have huge fps drop on short final, however, after few minutes after landing, when I parked at gate, fps back to normal.

What alse could I do...? :/

Try AIDupe or AirTrafficManager. Both are dealing with AI traffic that can be a culprit of FPS drop. Maybe too much AI planes are re-spawning at destination airport bringing FSX to its knees.

I have never heard about this kind of soft... it sounds promising. Thanks

...but does it work with VATSIM traffic? - I have turned FSX' default traffic off and installed all WoAI packages and vPilot.
