ERJ v2 no hud, yaw damper and autopilot

Featured Replies

Hello I just bought the ERJ and E-jets V2 bundle and I'm already pretty concerned.  It took a while to save up for the add-on and I notice some problems which seem to take away the features of the aircraft.

1.  There is no hud.  I mean, I click on the H and the screen changes, but there is no pretty green hud image, just "empty glass" if you will

2.  During the intro flight i was lining up to intercept the ILS.  But to my shock, when I pressed the yaw damper button (to disengage it) the auto pilot shut off as well and the aircraft pitched up violently.  Is this behavior normal for the aircraft?  Are the yaw damper and auto pilot connected so that one does not work without the other?

Issue #2 is far more of a concern than number one.

I was concerned as this add on is very old now, but it seemed the best light regional jet for Flight sim to this day.

Thank you for any help.

The autopilot disconnecting when you manually disengaged the Yaw Damper is correct behaviour.

You can engage the YD independently, and fly manually with YD support, but you can not operate the AP without the YD engaged.  The AP requires the YD for turn co-ordination and lateral stability.

The correct procedure when transitioning from automatic flight to manual, is simply to disengage the AP.

Hope this helps.

IT DOES HELP, thank you so much Craig! That makes me feel a lot better. I suppose I used to my props and turboprops addons (like the j41 for example) that call for the yaw damper to be switched off on approach, but the autopilot is left on.

It's a pleasure!

About this question:-

...I've never actually used the HUD in this aircraft, (depsite having done around 1,000 hours in it) but if I recall correctly, the HUD only works in 2D as a pop-up panel.   Don't know if that's how you were trying it?

Meh i dont really care about the hud either, just noticed it was missing.

Now a flying problem lol, I cannot CANNOT seem to capture that FMS decent path (I know that VNAV is advisory).  But nothing I try works, its always way above or below my current path.

I am supposed to try and keep the magenta arrow centered on my altitude tape right?  Is there somewhere that gives me a number (ie set your VS to this number and you'll be good)?

Thanks

Again, you're not doing anything wrong there.... there's no advisory VS that I'm aware of - it's just a question of adjusting VS constantly to try to keep that 'FMS' arrow in the middle of the displayed range.    As you've probably noticed, one of the main challenges is that the 'position' of the arrow changes when you reach each new waypoint (due to recalculation by the FMS).   So you may be right on target and then reach a new waypoint, and BANG! ... up (or down) goes the arrow.

I find that assigning keyboard commands to the ERJ's "Nose Up" and "Nose Down" commands (which control VS), in the feelthere configurator, the easiest way to make constant adjustments of VS, to keep the VNAV advisory arrow on target, without relying on constant messy mouse clicks.

Oh, and as a starter for ten, I will tell you that the FMS seems to like -1400 as an initial FPM for that arrow....
