Vic, do you have Volumetric Fog enabled?  Do you have Cloud Detail set to Max?  What resolution?

Cheers, Rob.

No - yes - 1920. I fly with ASN and find that the vol fog can be a bit overdone in severe weather.

Agree ... it would be nice if ASN allowed P3D users some control on the values used for Vol fog -- it does look rather odd in some situations -- oddly when I pick predefined weather situations and/or PrecitpitFX situations the fog looks perfect, so not really sure what's going on there.

On the performance front Volumetric Fog is a triple pass render process so has a significant overhead on the GPU ... add another post process like 8X CSAA with 2X SGSS AA at 4K res and it's GPU meltdown (hence the 99% on both GPUs).

So I can understand why you don't have much of a GPU load issue with dense clouds and those NI settings when you have volumetric fog off (along with less pixels to manage).

Cheers, Rob.

That makes sense Rob. If you throw enough at it you can max out any current GPU it seems. As always the hardware lags behind the software - although I don't think the gap is as great as it was when FSX was first released.

Also as a FWIW - my system is dedicated to P3D - no email or any other programs other than test, benchmarks and sim support stuff.

I just removed FTX Global and installed GEP3D textures - beautiful and smooth and less demand on GPU.

LOL! It's not hard work Denali. we all just LOVE to tinker with settings!! :)

Well, I'm stumped.  Tried working with and without the NI profile, and tried variations in the profile settings.  Conclusions:

1. P3D is reading the NI profile (evidence: visible changes in AA within P3D).

2. Artifacts are present whenever SLI is active - regardless of NI profile changes, or whether the NI profile is used or not.

It may well be that there's something amiss in my P3D install, or that there's something else about my setup (W7 settings?)  that makes this so.

Bottom line is that I'm out (I mean it this time) 'til new NVidia drivers come along.

Glad it's working for others.

EDIT:...and apparently the 353.30's have just been released.  Not sure if I'll get to try them today (deadlines to meet) but if I do, I'll report, otherwise standing by for updates from the first wave...

FURTHER EDIT: The release notes say "There were no fixed issues to report for this release."  Main change is the addition of a profile for Batman: Arkham Knight.

Hi guys,

Second GTX980 arrived this morning. Is there a guide for getting SLI setup yet? Is it officially supported by Nvidia and Prepar3d?

It's hard work if you're tired from the daily grind and aren't up on the latest bleeding edge tinker info.

What about Prepar3d 2.4? Is it possible to get SLI working (dual 970s) on P3D 2.4?

Actually I have one single 970 with 3 monitors, 2 of them (2 1680x1050 monitors) render Virtual cockpit (left seat and right seat) and the third one (5:4 monitor) render 2D panels (radio stack, GPS etc..).

Obviously I will use SLI to render Virtual cockpit on the two 1680x1050s. My question: will SLI treat the two monitors as separates ones or will it merge in a single one? Because I need the Left seat AND the right seat.

Another question, as mentioned before, I use a third monitor to render 2D panels. Do I need to get an additional GPU to render these ? Like an USB graphic card? Because I don't think the SLI can handle such configuration with mismateched resolution..

Thank you!

Hi,

I posted this at prepar3D

It's been confirmed by one person already..

As of yesterday, windows 10 users got a new driver NVidia 353.54. I noticed that after the update my frame rates were almost double, (Titan Z) I figured I must have screwed up one of my saved scenarios. So I created a new scenario, loaded FRAPS. Made sure a I did a clean reboot, and loaded my benchmark scene with and without SLI. The results blew me away, with SLI on my frame rates doubled!!!. I did the test twice, is anyone else seeing the same results?

It's been confirmed by one person at prepar3d on a similar thread I posted there.

Damn I wish.....same drivers and I cant get much over 25 FPS, when I was getting 50 -60 on previous build / driver combo's.......

Would you mind giving details of all your settings for me to try please? (NVCP, NI and in game)

Thank you

When I tried P3D a couple months ago I could not get it to run right no matter what I did. I returned and stayed with FSX but might have to revisit P3D if they get the SLI thing finally nailed.

As it is I run FSX full tilt at locked 30 fps and 1/2 refresh via NI and also have NI setup to force my three 980's to really work in FSX with 8xs AA and 8x SG supersampling. In Afterburner I am hitting 1325 Mhz on all three cards while running FSX with soft clouds and ASN stormy from the cockpit of my Duke. I could run higher frame rates but locked at 30 keeps the heat down.

Windows 10 was eventually supposed to help improve SLI and it looks like, from the above post, that is does. I might have to go PD3 and Win 10.

Great thread, thanks

Hello,

Is it possible to run a 34" monitor in SLI from 2 gtx 980's and at the same time run a smaller 21" monitor for instruments off a separate video card? I currently have a 980 running both monitors but would be willing to purchase another one and run the big monitor in SLI as long as I can keep the second monitor. The two monitors are obviously not the same resolution so I guess I would need to run the smaller one off a third vid card? Would that work?

Cheers,

Jim

Just wondering guys.

I have a Titan X 12 Gb and have a triple monitor view setup.

Photoscenery only.

To avoid OOM I had to disable Autogen completely. Of coarse this only worked with custom Autogen.

With Clear and Fair weather I can use 2x SGSS.

With multiople cloud layers / overcast I hjave to disable SGSS.

FPS at very detailed airport between 18-30. MyTraffic set to 25%.

When flying FPS are between 30-60.

Would SLI be of any use now that I don't have Autogen enabled ?
