A public announcement on behalf of DSB Design; Sigma Si...

WowDSB is NOT President George W. Bush :D (although I do see your point, let's not make this political)Reality is well known to most (!) posters thus far. The point is making the people who did this, AND those who allowed it to happen, accountable for what they did. The fact that they lied was pointed out to prove that maybe those of us who think DSB could be innocent in this should think again. I'm not taking any sides publicly on this, especially since I have no personal interest in the matter (not affiliated with either party, do not own said product, etc.), but I will say that, in the software industry, piracy MUST BE STOPPED, and condoning it is just as bad as doing it.-JeremyThe Ozark DogfighterHappy Flying!

I agree with you. I didn't mean to make this political. I was trying to think of an example and that's what popped up in my head.I already sumbitted a new thread boycotting DSB for what they did but I don't see it in the forum yet. Maybe AVSIM doesn't agree with my point. Anyway, here is my original post:After all the lengthy announcements, discussions & different points of views regarding the issue between DSB and Mr. Barendregt, I simply believe that:1. DSB pirated Mr. Barendregt's freeware gauge in their commercial product.2. It's wrong of DSB to have done so and it hurts our community and hobby, which I love.Following my simple believes, I've decided to boycott DSB products. I don't speak for the community or anyone else but myself. But I speak clearly. I will not purchase any product with DSB Design as the whole or partnered developer, endorser and/or distributor.

Hi Rob,I'm one of those who groaned when I first read your thread here because I believed that a legal matter cannot be satisfactorily resolved in a public forum where (almost) no one has access to all the unbiased information necessary to make an informed decision one way or the other. Well, a couple days later I actually think that you've made the right decision and it seems that you're on your way to achieve your goal. However, the main reason I believe this has worked is because of your personal conduct! As expected our resident hobby prosecutors have tried to hijack "your" thread several times already for their personal witch hunts but you - without help of the moderators - have thus far managed to keep the focus on the issues that can and should be dealt with here. I don't think I would have been able to keep my cool like you did so I'm keeping these two threads bookmarked should I ever find myself in a similar situation. In short, I'm impressed!Best wishes for a satisfactory (to you) outcome of this "mess".Cheers,Holger Sandmann

I've never heard of DSB at all, but i can't stand "marketing PR" and all that b$!$%&*t. Why can't they just cut to the chase and deal with the issue at hand?Dan

Glad you agree. And I think most of the people here would. That was my original purpose to start a thread like this for people to sign with me. I personally think this is the only way to show DSB that they will TRULY pay for what they did. I hope my thread gets posted.

Well, if you do this "boycot" post on my behalf: PLEASE DON'T.This issue has not ended yet; please wait untill it's all clear (including DSB Design Update release) and THEN judge.I still have a number of questions open for DSB (in one of my first replies). Give them the oppertunity to react, please.. As I will.Best Regards, Rob

I will not then in order not to complicate anything against your will. I know the discussion is still ongoing. And there are millions of details flying around at this point. I hope you'll eventually get to a point of satisfactory. However I still think what I said is true. I believe they stole from you and made money out of it. Allowed time, they'll clean it up well but you'll not get them to admit it straight out or compensate you in anyway (not saying that's what you are after). Their so called public announcement is a badly-done distraction from the main point. I don't like their deeds and their style. I am with you on this one but I wasn't really trying to do you a favor. I was just voicing my own opinion as a member of this community.Unless at this point in progress you tell me you doubt they actually pirated your gauge, I hold my judgement but I can hold it to myself as you asked.

>**Lies, Smoke and Mirrors**>"As pointed out in the other thread, a member discovered>something interesting............"........BLAH.....BLAH....BLAH...................................................................................".....developers in this discussion>is somewhat puzzling. It is nice to see some of them here>though.[/b]>>Some of you say SimMarket should not remove the other DSB>Products. Well, I guess the Dollar is more important than the>integrity of doing what is right for the community.>>So it all continues as Lies, Smoke and Mirrors.>>Regards,>JoeJoe, You either have too much time on your hands, or have an insatiable desire to be right and have the last word! ;-)It is great to express your opinion, but trying to convince everyone that your opinion is the "correct opinion" is really going an extra, and unnecessary, mile!Pete S.

Hi Rob,I'll keep my comments limited to DSB per your request for now.Hopefully DSB replies and does what is right. If it chooses not to, then I guess we'll see what develops next.Take Care,Joe

Hi Holger,Thank you !I hope it shows (again) that this is not just a spontaneous action, but indeed well-thought of, and very determined. This is the first time in my entire FS life that this happens; and if a forum like this is the only way to get it cleared: so be it.Included (according to some posters) the unfortunate side-effects it might have. But this has become a principle thing for me; if someone thinks he/she can get away with this and decides NOT to use the given oppertunity to settle it privately (my first 4 "silent" days), then he/she has made a serious error in judgement. And in that case, getting to the bottom of this is not only in MY interrest. But again, lets wait for DSB Designs next reaction (if any).I DID leave open the option of contacting me privately again or explain further here (see one of my first reactions); which they haven't done yet after 20 hours. But I'm afraid that the longer that takes, the worse it gets. But that's their choice (again). Best regards, Rob

They are doing the best thing for themselves by not doing anything. it can be surprising how fast people's interest and focus dissipate. As you can see, people are already having scotch over this topic.

Rob:I am not a designer and am sad to say that in your way of originating for the flightsim community I am just a user. AS such, I cannot identify adequately with your situation, so please accept the respect of one somewhat on the sidelines.I have no idea what the outcome of this fiasco will be, nor am I wise enough to be sure that I pick out the guilty party and/or all the parties; but to me there are a few things that are obvious and fruitful thanks to your efforts.Your composure, patience, dignity, attitude and obvious objectivity are commendable. IMHO you have supplied the community with a dandy example for forum discretion and conduct. Were that every post I have made, or will make might display your example of courtesy and restraint while being somewhat under fire.In addition to your own choice of words, you have brought out some of the best among the rest of the community (and unfortunately a few that may leave something to be desired).I don't know whether everybody does this or not, but even with my tired old memory, thanks to what they contribute there are some identities who post and reply that I try not to overlook. They seem to always objectively warn, inform, and add to the community knowledge in a fruitful manner. Your ID certainly belongs in the memory bank. (I am afraid there are one or two that I also try to remember to skip over as well, as in all probability I think I already know what they are going to say.)- NO! I am not picking on anybody specifically in this thread, however if somebody has a guilty conscience and think the shoe fits, so be it.By all means, I hope that this thread will remain to its conclusion, hopefully displaying a resolution beneficial to all innocent parties. I also hope that there is some justice possible relaive to the guilty. It wakes some of us up a bit as to just what is going on.Respectfully: RTH1585368CFI
