MUHA Havana

Recommended Posts

Seeing that trade restrictions have been lifted between the US and Cuba, this announcement by Eastern Airlines is of notable news. This link was sent to me by John Loney Jr.

It shows a 737-800 in the old Eastern livery. It is great news for this defunct airline to once again resume a revenue generating route. I checked the library and there is only one AFCAD remake of the airport by Steve Lewis done in 2009. Would be a good scenery project for someone but I'm not sure where you would find up to date source material for current building architecture, etc. Tom Gibson did a remake for MUHA as it was in 1962 for FS9 but nothing currently exists for FSX.

If you are looking for modern MUHA there's a good payware from Taxi2Gate for FSX.

this announcement by Eastern Airlines is of notable news.

It's only of notable news because it's Eastern's first flight, not because of Havana. US Carriers have been flying charters there for years. The first Eastern flight will also be a charter, as their strategy is to start 'small' with regional charters and work their way up to scheduled operations once they get on their feet. Also, trade restrictions have not been lifted, at least not yet. What we're seeing is a gradual loosening of restrictions and a resumption of diplomatic relations that will take several years to finalize.

But, who knows, maybe Eastern's first scheduled, non-charter flight in a few years time will be to Havana if restrictions are fully lifted by then!
