MCP Choices that work with P3D

+1 for GoFlight MCP-Pro with GIT ... no programming required for PMDG 777 and 737. I waited for GoFlights 30% sales and purchased a couple of grand worth of product, MCP-Pro being one of them.

 

I did a profile for Aerosoft Airbus A3xx series for GIT includes MCP-Pro ... I make have a more recent one I need to upload, but my older one you can find here: http://www.pollypotsoftware.org.uk/downloads.html ... the forums also have a wealth of info and Steve (developer of GIT) is very supportive and provides regular updates to GIT.

Are the knobs flimsy or pretty sturdy, trying to watch some youtube videos to see the quality.

They're not real world knobs ... they work and feel "ok" ... they pull off and push on.  They have detents.

Imho you will enjoy the GF mcp.

 

However it does not come with nightlighting as Opencockpits and CpFlight mcp have....

 

Like I wrote before the best and most real one is the CpFlight mcp Pro, but it is also the most expensive.

Just look at the buttons . The nightlighting on the txt is different then the one from the switches.

It has a banking switch and the AT switch automatically switches off at touchdown.

 

Myself I have the CpFlight mcp EL , imho the best bang for the buck, but one day I hope to own the Pro version....

Since last Christmas I am a very happy owner of the GoFlight MCP Pro.

I fly the PMDG 737NGX, and am surprised every time I add an aircraft to the hangar, that I can use the MCP with it, even on simple freeware aircraft.

I am loving this mcp so much, that I don't understand how I have been able to do without it for so long.

My next purchases will be the GoFlight EFIS, and one or two GF-166 modules for N AV and COM radios

Please forgive the bad choice of words. When I mentioned serviceable, I was suggesting they serve my needs. VRI makes a cost effective product and probably didn't use the same quality hardware as, say, CPFlight. That said, I have had the unit for over 2 years and the knobs are working without issue. Not real smooth, but not jumping around.

 

I believe version II uses better pots. Furthermore, if I'm not mistaken (take with a grain of salt...as I may be) the firmware has been improved to produce smoother performance of knobs.

 

Too bad the VRI forum is dead. You may have gotten a response regarding upgrading pots. In any event, if improved firmware equalled improved rotary performance, new pots might not help. You could email VRI tech support and check for firmare/software update for version I and also the possibility of upgrading pots.

Thanks Graham.  Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right about the knobs and firmware.  I was watching the knobs as buttons recently, looking at the commands it was sending to FSUIPC and it was pretty bad.  I don't think the knobs are granular enough and the firmware for them seems close to buggy.  Every so often I look for some hardware to replace it but, so far, I continue to live with it.  I've even thought about just mapping the buttons to the 'slow left' and slow right' commands and controlling them manually via LUA.  Pretty sure that would work (at least for the MCP part) but I haven't spent much time working on the algorithm and been busy just flying.  I like using LINDA since I can code the commands through LUA directly which is why I was asking if any of the hardware above uses it...I suppose that if it works for multiple aircraft out of the box then I'd be okay with it.  I only fly the NGX about 10% of my flying and I need it to work for the Flight1 Mustang, Eaglesoft Citation X and some others as well (Eaglesoft is completely non-standard and everything has to be mapped either with mouse macros or keystrokes.  Pretty unusual.).

I may have picked you up wrong, but I do know that if you try to program VRI through FSUIPC, you will get inconsistent results. No bugs, just the nature of the beast. LINDA does not officially support version I, but I do believe it is functional; although that is using older version of LINDA.

Yeah, I've asked them before.  It works as well on the latest version of LINDA.  If the Combo II is better than Combo I I'll at least consider it for a replacement.

Has anyone either experienced or heard anything about this MCP from Virtual Avionics?

 

It looks very nice and appears to be complete.  Not bad for $550 USD. It also looks like they have an EFIS control panel too.
