I'm one hotfix behind from up-to-date

Recommended Posts

I'm one hotfix behind from up-to-date. I currently have 2.5.12944 installed. I have downloaded the full clean installer of 2.5.12945.

I need some input from our community because gosh, I'm in a pickle.

Is it best for me to wait and clean re-install everything when 2.6 comes along or clean uninstall & apply the latest build now?

What would you do? and why? Thanks for your input, means a lot!

What 2.6? It hasn't even been announced, so could be months away or even not at all. We know there is a 3.x on the horizon, a very blurry and distant horizon, and that's not only a fresh install but probably a fresh purchase.

In any case `2.x` will only pick up where 2.5 left off and you'll have to reinstall anyway, so you're only delaying the inevitable - and the benefits of 2.5!

ANY moving on from 2.4 is going to require the full de-install/reinstall routine.

Do it. Do it now. That's my vote.

Always best to start from scratch, as someone else here said, gives you a chance to weed out things you don't use anymore. But if you are happy with your current setup, the hotfix is just a drag-and- drop away. Don't wait, update. Who knows when the next version will hit the shelf!

That's a good point - the Hotfix update 944-945 is still available, so that solves that problem.

George. Don't delete the `944 installer, but go to the L-M website and grab the hotfix, if its still available. Should get you bang up to date, but without the reinstall hassle.

If you keep BOTH installers then you can delete 944 when and if you're happy with 945, then hold that full installer for any later installation so you remain current.

Final tip: Reboot the computer after the hotfix.

I don't think you will need to redo your Orbx stuff, one thing that is version specific tho is the F1 GTN gauges. They release new installers for each hotfix that comes out.

You won't need to reinstall anything by installing the hotfix. It's a zip file not an installer. Just drag the files into your p3d folder. Make sure you unblock it first. Right click on on the zip file and click unblock then ok

So I was reading that post over at LM board and people are complaining it wiped everything out after applying the hotfix. Not that I don't trust u....but have you applied it yourself without losing anything? Can anyone else ALSO confirm...? I'm nervous (lol)

A patch in a zip means you unzip the patch, then place the files directly into the folders yourself. The only way it wipes anything out is if you stuff it up.

The solution is simple: Don't stuff it up.

I applied it rather than use the full install, then later on deinstalled and reinstalled as part of some computer house cleaning, this time with the full installer. Worked perfectly both times. Just follow the instructions.

It's only a 20 meg patch fer gawds sake. Either apply it or don't.

All is good! Looks like Hotfix didn't mess with any of my addons/scenery. Thanks!

No excuses. It's a delicious pickle. I just took the plunge into the jar for the first time 2 days ago. All I've been doing since then is installing, flying, judging, getting way ahead of myself, napping, unstalling...and repeat.

I'm on my third reinstall right now!! I've had the damn thing 2 days! Old habits man, This is the first time I've been back into FS for 3-4 years. Maybe I just feel like I "have to reinstall, obviously that cloud texture slowed it down" or "I think that plane is giving me a couple extra stutters an hour. Can it all. Start over" I feel like a damaged, divorced and angry lover who is putting the wall up to just keep from getting hurt again...but that doesn't matter. Now I'm reinstalling because Im going to make a one way flight all the way across, up and down the US and I want it to be fresh. Crispy like a new shirt.

God it's awesome. I get my love for FS back and Understand women in the same 3 day span. It's a Miracle!!

I digress, sorry Yorgos.

, I say do it, Unless you don't ave a couple of hours to spare it. It'll be good for your attitude and it's not as sketchy as FSX would be at times. It takes me about an hour to uninstall along with all of my add-ons and turn right around to start from the top. do it somewhere else.
