Does SLI users have seen less visual artefacts with 353.06 nvidia drivers ?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,
I’m currently trying to setup and tune my config with two GTX770 focus on SGSAA. I’m running nvidia driver version 352.86 and encountered visual artefacts (see below screen shots).

Does forum users of the 353.06 nvidia drivers notice less (or no more) artefact or does the situation hasn’t change ?

Have nice flights SLI or not ;-)

Hi,

actually we are caught with these artefacts in SLI. AFAIK there is no current quick solution for this. What you can try is to disable the effects by simply move it out of the effects folders to see how that works. Search for something with lightning, sparks, wakes etc.

Try the Nvidia Inspector settings here - they work for me.

Hi Vic

just tried your settings although i played around with them. I disabled the profil just as you did in your profile. While leaving the profile disabled the effects are back working however i saw both GPUs running 99%.

You're saying you solved these graphical issues with TS present in SLI?

I've been using those settings for almost a year. I had the same artifacts as others and these settings resolved them. I sometimes drop the framerate limiter and occasionally change the P3D sliders but other than using the 353 drivers this is same profile I've used with 347.88. I also run occasionally with 32xCSAA but can notice no difference.

The reason why you do not see any artifacts is that the nVidia SLI profile for P3D2 is disabled. However SLI is working.

I saw the same artifacts when using the force AFR trick from the days when the SLI profile lacked.

I am confused, I thought the profile needs to be active for said program support of SLI!

Will have to give this a try - didn't know it was possible to run SLI without the P3D profile.  At the moment I've got SLI disabled (personal reasons - big user of Henrik Nielsen's AI ships and I don't want to do without my wakes) but if I can run SLI without screwing up the effects, I'm game.  Might be able to test drive later today - if so I'll report back.

That screencap is from the 347.88 drivers which did not have an NVidia profile. If I made a few changes, I would get the artifacts - with these settings I do not.

Using the 353 drivers WITH the P3D profile enabled by itself, I get the artifacts - but making the addl changes to the profile prevents the artifacts WITH the profile enabled.

Vic

edit: Just to clarify here - I did not DISABLE the P3D profile - the screencap was from the 347.88 driver which did NOT have a p3d profile. With the 353 drivers, I load the P3D profile and then change the settings leaving the profile ENABLED.

Vic - a quick question.  Is it necessary to make changes "by hand" in the NVI P3D profile after importing your version?  If so, what changes?  So far, I've downloaded yours and imported it, and changed CP and P3D settings to match yours, but haven't altered anything in NVI after importing your profile.  Performance is phenomenally good - best I've seen in P3D - but on my system the full range of artifacts is still there - drug-hallucination lighting, vertical boat wakes. A2A nav lights waiting for me in my parking spot, the works.  Does this come down to system differences, or have I missed a step?  Happy to experiment further - I'd really love to be able to capture this level of performance, but ideally without the weirdness.  Let me know.  Thanks!

EDIT: I reviewed the profile I installed against your screenshots and can''t find any differences between them.  There are a few P3D-specific references in the "undefined" section at the end, but I don't know what they govern.  But apart from that, my settings match yours.  Wish I knew why you're artifact-free when I've still got them, but am guessing it's just one of those P3D or FSX things - as in, "your mileage may vary."

IIRC, Henrik's ships had the vertical wake problem in P3D 1.4, and he provided an alternate set of wake effects files.  I might install those and see if they help.  If I do, I'll post the results.

Alan - I need to post a new screenshot. This one does not show the P3D profile as I was using 347.88.

Install 353 drivers

Set the NVidia control panel to enable SLI

Go into NVI and reset the P3D profile to defaults - this will set the new P3D profile for the driver

NOW adjust the aa, etc to ADD my settings - leave the upper SLI section alone. Notice that I change the two default settings in the lower SLI section - I manually define TWO cards rather than auto and I set SLI AA to ENABLE.

Those two PLUS the 8xcsaa setting seem to affect my artifacts. Especially csaa - if I change that, artifacts are back.

What I do to check - I have a specific aircraft (Milviz 310 FSX version) that will have it's light flashing erratically when I get artifiacts - I adjusted settings until I can turn them on/off.

As far as GPU usage - really depends on area and weather. Heavy clouds, low vis and rain will get it up to 99% on both but my system generally stays around 50/50.

HTH,

Vic
