Windows update...

Recommended Posts

Maybe 'Update Tuesday' will still carry on..

I really do not mind it updates are automatic or not... I prefer my software to be up to date.

That's true, I do not care either, but as long as they're updates for Windows only. Windows 10 will automatically install drivers as well, which I don't like.

The "forced" automatic updates are for Home users only. Professional/Enterprise users can still defer/skip the updates. And I agree, I'll never allow MS to touch my drivers. If I were a Home user that alone would keep me on Windows 7 (or upgrade).

Professional can defer updates for a limited time only. After a while, they will install automatically. Enterprise can choose updates at free will.

Yeah. I have the preview on my laptop and the trackpad suddenly stopped working once... I went to Windows Updates and it was installing and update for my trackpad without ever asking me. Imagine what will happen if/when it decides to install a graphics driver while playing a game.

Last month I rearranged a bunch of hardware and decided to do a full reinstall of everything - both FSX and W7 Pro. I reinstalled W7 with SP1 and then reinstalled FSX and a ton of add-ons. Ran my standard "FPS check flight". Result was 58.7 FPS avg. No stutters, no lags.

Then I let Windows Update do it's thing with everything except drivers and ran the check flight again. Result was 64.6 FPS. No stutter, no lags.

YMMV.
