Prepar3d problem

Recommended Posts

First, sorry about my English.

Second, I have a problem with my Prepar3d :

My simulator like doesn't recognize and doesn't paid attention to my Prepar3D.CFG file.

I mean that I tried to tweak it with this guide :

http://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv2/LearningCenter/getting_started/performance/tuning_guide.html

And nothing got better or worse- nothing has been changed, there isn't any change in the Prepar3D.

What am I doing wrong?

thanks.

I just did comparison tests yesterday.

I found the Optimize Parts=1 tweak gave maybe 1-2 FPS. The rest did nothing, including the mainstay FFTF=0.01. Tweaking P3D is mostly placebo.

Affinitymask did nothing.

I think most of the tweaks are wishful thinking besides the Optimize parts and possibly FFTF. It's not like MSFS where 500 tweaks wasn't enough.

Any FFTF setting lower than 0.10 will default back to 0.10 so all these 0.001 and 0.01 do nothing that 0.10 can't do.

I was a big tweaker in FSX and they did actually work. So I'm not one of these "you are all crazy, it's just placebo" guys who berate tweaks.

BP=0 was a freaking miracle for my system and FFTF=0.10 was great as well in conjunction with it. HIGHMEMFIX was of course a must have for every system.

To me, affinitymask was always mostly smoke, even in FSX. In P3D, there seems to be very little in the way of game-changing tweaks were as FSX had plenty of them.

With my GTX 970, I see little difference in in-game settings as well. I can turn off shadows, water low, HDR, etc. and my FPS stay about the same with it all on. Clearly the CPU is the bottleneck while my GPU has substantial power to use all the eye-candy.

Maybe I'll replace my 2500k at 4.6ghz eventually.

Bonchie - I agree re FSX. It *needed* the tweaks but most of the tweaks have been incorporated in P3D or rendered useless because of code changes.

If the Prepar3d.cfg is not set to read only and you are making changes to it, yet seeing no improvements, that's not unusual.

P3D tweaks are very limited and in many user cases provide no benefit. See the above posts.

What's your system? I might be able to give you some tips. My old 2500k (OC to 4.6ghz) with a $275 GTX 970 runs the sim basically maxed out (I don't use tree shadows though).

I get 30FPS in the A2A Comanche at KPHX w/ FTX Global, UTX2, Opus, UT2 traffic 100%, etc. HDR, Cloud/terrain shadows, all airplane shadow options on, water on high.

But, I struggled to get 15FPS with the 352.80 drivers for some reason (something may of been corrupted with my install as well). I updated to 353.30, did a full reinstall, and it fixed everything.

So if you aren't seeing what you think you should be seeing, there are a lot of areas to check besides the .cfg file.

Why are you tweaking it?

There should be no need to change the cfg.

If there is a problem it is most likely a PC or GPU issue.

What is the FULL PATH of the file you are working on? It should be something like C:\Users\Tal\Appdata\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3d v2\Prepar3d.cfg.

You are sure p3d is not running while you are editing?

Have you just deleted it and let P3d build another.

Is your sim NOT running well with the DEFAULT cfg file?

It's difficult to understand what you are trying to accomplish or what the problem is.

Literally, none of the tweaks in the link you posted are going to give better performance. Those are mainly to cure texture loading issues.

What exactly do you think you should be seeing? There are no miracle tweaks for p3D.
