July 1, 201510 yr I flew into KLAX yesterday landing on 25L and noticed there were no Papi lights. First time I have seen this at a major airport. I Googled the issue and found a few posts that also state that there are no Papi lights on those two runways. Has anyone else noticed this. All my other airports have working Papi lights so this is not a video card driver issue. This is also the P3D default scenery for KLAX
July 1, 201510 yr At skyvector it states P4R - I think that means 4 bar Papi right of runway | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
July 1, 201510 yr Author At skyvector it states P4R - I think that means 4 bar Papi right of runway I know it says that in the airport stats, but my question is , why doesn't it appear in FSX or P3D apparently, at least on mine and some other people that have posted questions on the topic over the years. This can easily be checked out in a few seconds by just going to this airport KLAX at either 25L or 25 R and see if you see any Papi lights If anywhere. If they are there, you would see them as red sitting at the runway threshold.
July 1, 201510 yr I just checked and I have no approach lights for any east bound runway at LAX. 25L/R and 24L/R have none whether it's day or night. I have noticed this with other airports in my travels but never really gave any thought to it until now. Joseph Catino

OK thanks, I guess when MS input the data back in 2010, for that airport, there was no PAPI lights on 25. A the time it said the only vertical guidance for 25 L and R was ILS. Since then, they have added them, but never made the change in the airport BGL for KLAX. probably any recent add on BGL would have the PAPI for those runways. Just found this link which is up to date and shows there are no PAPI lights on those runways 24 or 25 L and R , only on Rwys 6 and 7 https://www.globalair.com/airport/apt.runway.aspx?aptcode=LAX
July 1, 201510 yr Interesting - contradicts skyvector I wonder which is correct | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

The current FAA airport facility directory shows that all four runways at KLAX have operational PAPI lighting at both ends. http://aeronav.faa.gov/afd/25jun2015/sw_143_25JUN2015.pdf The P3D default airport data (I believe) is the same as that found in RTM FSX, which goes back to 2006 - so it is quite possible that at that time, there were no PAPIs on the 24/25 runways - or perhaps they just got overlooked when the airports were created. I have the FSDT KLAX add-on, which does have PAPIs on the westbound runways. As you are probably aware, certain NVidia drivers prevent the PAPI lights from appearing on ANY runway in P3D, but that does not appear to be the problem in this case. July 1, 201510 yr Yeah to make sure it wasn't driver related I flew around a few surrounding airports and checked all their runways and it's solely the 24/25s at LAX, must just be the outdated data. Joseph Catino
July 1, 201510 yr Easy enough to fix with ADE. Default though? Ray Smith has a fantastic version that's free for FSX. Simply add the PAPI's then reset the draw flags to convert it to P3d and it's done, airport transformed. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024

July 1, 201510 yr You'll need to install the P3d SDK for starters, but ADE is available for FREE here http://www.scruffyduck.org/downloads/4584110854. Be sure to download the manual as well as it can be very useful. As with anything new, there will be a learning curve. There is however, a massive user base here that can assist if you need it. But it does get incredibly easy for something so simple as adding PAPI's. From launching ADE to having it all done and compiled, adding PAPI's to both runways at LAX that doesn't have them takes only a couple minutes. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
