working out performance

Recommended Posts

hi

I wonder if you can kindly advise me on working out the take off performance on pmdg 777 and the cg position so I can insert it in the fmc I heard top cat is a very effective tool in achieving this and does this accurately work out the correct fuel also what is the average cg position?

kind regards

Yes you can use Topcat and PFPX. However, for the CG just press the LSK next to CG and it will populate it for you, you do not enter it manually

Agree with Chris, do not (ever) use TOPCAT for weight and balance in a PMDG aircraft. See the Introduction document for the reasons why.

PFPX is a flight planner that includes fuel calcs for the B777, and incorporates various rules for reserves and alternate fuel and ETOPS operations.  TOPCAT is simply a takeoff/landing calculator, while handy and I use it, it is not a flight planner.

Average cg position is meaningless, you need to the correct cg.

You really should fly the tutorial. It is almost a requirement and will answer almost any question that one new to a PMDG product can have.

You need PFPX like Chris said. TOPCAT has an Estimate button for fuel. That is all it is - an estimate which is nor accurate.

I should mention, since it wasn't clear in my first post, that you rarely interface with Topcat directly if you have the PFPX & Topcat bundle.

If you buy the bundle, two options are available in PFPX named Takeoff and Landing. When you click these, it will open a sort of mini-Topcat where you calculate T/O and Landing data, and these are then added to to your flight plan. You can see the bundle here http://www.flightsimsoft.com/pricing/

I can't recommend it enough if you want something that's both fairly realistic and will give you the numbers you need. I can build a whole flight plan in minutes if I'm in a rush.

This will give you the fuel, payload and takeoff & landing data that you are after. But all of this is through PFPX with the Topcat module. I only ever open Topcat separately for one specific reason. I fail to see any reason to buy one but not the other. Both give you what you want.
