RSR: "A year from now [...] the first previews of our upcoming 7_7 project"

Recommended Posts

EDIT: July-August 2015 issue of PC Pilot.

PC PILOT: With the big changes in the simulation hobby, were do you think the hobby and PMDG will be a year from now?

RSR: I am excited about the next couple of years, actually! [,,,] At PMDG we will be enjoying a sky full of PMDG NGX, 777, 744 and 748 simulator pilots while preparing to show the first previews of our upcoming PMDG 7_7 product.

Fill in the blanks guys! I'm going out on a limb here and saying '8' ;)

(I didn't see any other threads mentioning this, so apologies if it's already been discussed)

All aboard the hype train!

Neil Andrews.

Assuming it was a recent statement by RSR I can't imagine anything but '8'. But then again...

Isn't the flight deck of the 747-800 similar to the 787? Because if so then you could argue some work has already been done to get a 787.

However, that doesn't really make sense to me. 777 is very modern and long haul. 747-400 is very well loved aircraft, big, heavy, long haul and a mix of modern and old gen between -400 and -800. 737 is a small, short/medium haul aircraft with a relitivly modern flight deck

But the 787 is slightly bigger then the 737, and while it can fly a lot longer, 5000 miles more, and can take a much higher fuel volume and max take off weight...it's not all that different. Other then the flight deck is more modern. But, differences between 737 and 777 are huge, 737 and 787 are not, in my opinion.

An older craft would make a bit more sense to me.

The 787's flight deck is all-new. The 777X flight deck is supposed to follow the 787's, per most recent information.  The 787 is a wholly different airplane than the 737, or any Boeing airliner for that matter. Almost all systems are completely electric, no hydraulic systems to speak of. Its a whole new animal.

That said the 787 is the most likely candidate, it is new, there are two models flying with the -10 to come soon.  While I would love it to be a 727 or 757, I doubt it.

Yes. I was going off a documentary I watched quite a while ago on the 747-800 and they stated that it was taking a lot from the 787, hence why it was named 747-800. Looking at pictures, they don't look all that different. But, it's hard to find any decent pictures of both flight decks.

But still. I standby what I said. A 787 isn't that different, nor exciting to me personally, to what we already have. In terms of hydraulics or not, I don't see how that effects my in a sim world. But, I don't really know anything about the 787 other then flying in one as a passenger.  Just my opinion

I just edited the original post to state it's from the JULY-AUGUST 2015 issue of PC Pilot.

Interestingly enough he also has this to say in the same answer...

RSR: [...] We will be hard at work wrapping up our first major airliner for X-Plane.

emphasis on 'major'. is the DC-6 a 'major' airliner?...hmmmm!

I'd also see a 787 coming over the years...personally I probably wouldn't buy it since I already have the 777 and no airlines from my region of the world fly one. But then again, it's PMDG so I most likely will buy it just for the heck of having a fully simulated 787...ONLY IF they develop the 787 that is...

What I'd really like to see is them bringing the 737 to the latest standards - including more modern cockpit options, maybe even a clean cockpit variant (since the current NG they've done is modelled after a very old, worn out and hard-working 737), the 737 Performance Improvement Package (PIP) and split scimitar winglets. I'm perfectly fine with flying a good old 737NG in my sim but having an option for a fresh one from Everett would be quite nice.

Apart from Boeing there really isn't anything I could think of for the next 5 years besides the 787 and a 737 upgrade. But heck we also might see something completely different...

I hope for a 767 along with 757.

Best regards

Hoping the same !

We have two longhaul airliners, the 777 and the upcoming 744v2, and only one short/medium haul, the NGX.

I think it would be intersting to have one more airplane in that category and the 757 seems like a logical choice here.

Or, MD80 series ?...

Just my 2 cents...

Best regards,

Alex
