Slovenia, Austria and Italy round trip

Catchy title huh?

Flight plan and narrative

SkyVector

You have to trust me when I say I really did try to do an interesting, educational and witty narrative. I failed miserably. :(

This has served to heighten my respect for Jeff and Mike who churn out such brilliant stuff week after week. Bless you boys.

Say what?

My recommendations for the scenery are Orbx Global, Orbx EU_LC (really makes a difference) and Orbx Vector. All combine to make an 'almost' full fat region out of the whole of Europe.(I did ask JV for some commission but he told me to get stuffed! )

Oh yes, aircraft. I'm going to use the RealAir Legacy as there are a couple of longish legs.

That's all folks, nothing more to see here.

Remember that, at least for Italy, there is a 1mt or a 2mt photoreal scenery you can also download :)

Bryan, I just realised you have to take your link from the doohickey top right. You probably did what I did and simply copied the link from the address bar.

Slovenia, Austria, and Italy Round Trip – Eye Candy

Ron's route selection provides all the eye candy that we need. However, for those who like their airports, the following are worth considering.

Portoroz (LJPZ) is a nice rendition of the resort airfield. (Strel also adds many buildings in the vicinity and does what appears to be a nice job with the classic hotels and beach resort. Notably, he models for the default coastline – users of Orbx Vector or UTX Europe should take a careful look. They may see a premature picture of global warming's impact on the rising sea level.)

Ljubljana (LJPJ) is a good freeware representation of the real airport. Klagenfurt (LOWK) is an excellent freeware representation. Trento-Mattarello (LIDT) accurately captures the striking little terminal and quirks of the airfield. All three are recommended, especially Klagenfurt.

Finally, the flight ends at Venice's historic San Nicolo airfield (LIPV), now named Venice-Lido Airport. San Nicolo was a military and naval airfield from WWI and served Venice as a commercial airport before traffic was moved to Tessera in the 1970s. It is now a General Aviation facility.) This grass field is barren in default FSX. Happily, ISD produced a FS2004 scenery for Venice (that includes LIPV). I extracted a subset to produce a decent freeware representation of the art deco terminal and the old military buildings and hangars. In FSX, this scenery is fully functional if imperfect.

Both Zell am See, Austria (LOWZ) and Bolzano, Italy (LIPB) are represented in the Orbx Europe Freeware Pack. Asiago (LIDA) is without structures which might make it "cheesy" were it not for the dramatic surrounding terrain.

Note that these sceneries are not necessary for the flight. The runways are the same as the default. So this is merely a matter of replicating the local color for extra visual interest. The download locations are listed below.

And in case you want to try, here you can find the 1 meter resolution scenery for Italy.

http://italyphotoreal.weebly.com/download.html

You'll find first a link with the grid of how the single squares are divided and then the links to the google drive folders.

Guy's

Just a little "chat". About now it is time to tune into the "busiest airport in the world" for one's audio fix. Hit it up at liveatc.net .Favs so far for the pre are - "KOSH Fisk VFR Approach" (Temp, inbound only, pre convention), & "KOSH Del/Gnd/Dep/Misc" & "KOSH Tower (North+South)" . Best times are 1100z-1500z & 2100z-0100z for those low "temperature derived turbulence" frames local (Dawn&Dusk). To keep ahead of what's going on, this page is a good description. Otherwise, the NOTAM, a damn good read, is good too - here.

Been tuning out the news on the A.M.band. It is now - "White RV, rock your wings" "Expect rwy 09" "White Dot, cleared to land" etc.. It's early and will only get better.

It's a boatload better than, 'Insert all the f___ing crap here'.

Have yourselves a good flight this weekend - Cya in August.

Just to finish off the set of sceneries, here's Asiago PIDA by Dario Bortot.

PIDA link

I don't understand Italian but there's a link to Dropbox so I assume it's OK to take it.

It certainly has taken the 'cheesiness' off Asiago. Looks very good. If you have Orbx Vector run the Elevation tool!

Way to go Roman!
