Request for thoughts on an out-of-the-box ASUS G10AJ

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone -

I am increasingly wary of my own "build it yourself" computer skills.  While I have swapped memory and added a few graphics cards in my lifetime, I am simply not comfortable with assembling a system from scratch.  I read with interest the recent forum chat about Jetline Systems, as I've been leaning towards a Jetline myself, but the cost of their systems is definitely giving me pause.

So, I ask if you have thought about an out-of-the-box Asus system, specifically this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883220989 .  (If link does not work anymore, it's an ASUSG10AJ-US010S Desktop, PC Intel Core i7 4790 (3.6GHz) 16GB DDR3 2TB HDD 128GB SSD Windows 8.1 64-Bit.)

I realize the SSD is probably too small, so I would likely have to install FSX on the hard drive.  Yes, the 3.6 GHz is on the slower side from what I am reading about here.  (And I'm not too confident in my skills with overclocking, if it could even be done.  I've never done it.)  But for $1400, this does not seem like a bad buy.  I appreciate hearing any of your thoughts out there!

Thank you ahead of time,

Ken

Never mind!  After a bit more research, I changed my mind and went with a slightly higher end out-of-the-box solution here:  http://www.microcenter.com/product/445087/G423_Desktop_Computer .  Seemed like a decent price for what one gets.  Going through early installations now; I've heard reasonably good reports about Microcenter in general in the US, and fortunately one of their retail stores is not too far from me in case things go wrong.

Looks like it has all the ingredients of a solid machine, ie 4790k, 980gtx and 16gb of 2400 RAM. Good luck and have fun!

Assuming they have what I need in stock I've had nothing but good experiences at Micro Center. The one time I had a defective part they took it back and gave me a new one on the spot, no questions asked.  The sales techs are surprisingly competent as well.
