DCS: F/A-18C

Recommended Posts

For me the mark of a good simulation is to keep going back to it, years after you bought it and finding it just as gripping. The A10C Warthog is one. The Hornet looks like a safe bet it will turn out to be the same.

To learn the systems, the HOTAS and fly the aircraft, letting all that ordinance loose, is what makes DCS my go back to sim when the NGX becomes so mundane its like flying a desk.(yawn)

The Hornet may push me over the edge and into VR Headset territory....:-) Feel the need..the need for speed!

Fly Navy:-)

Wags little announcement about F/A-18C develop

New news on the Hornet project will be made available a few weeks after the release of the Normandy 1944 map. In the meantime, the Hornet is under VERY active development.

**EDIT**

I'm being told this is actually the AI Model already in DCS World.

I'm still not clear on why EA went with the Hornet instead of the Super Hornet - anyone know the reason?  Matt certainly has experience with the Super Hornet from his days with Jane's F/A-18 and the technical documentation exists in abundance.  Additionally, having a Super Hornet model would help to bring about The E, F and the Growler, and of course two of those platforms could be used for Shared Cockpit - something that would make the DCS experience even better!

Real world, USMC Squadrons (who are the only US Armed Forces who fly the Hornet, other than the Navy's Blue Angles) have cannibalized aircraft time and again to keep some Hornets flying because there are no spare parts available and many needed parts to fix aircraft can no longer be made.  We're now down to 2 operational USMC squadrons and the clock is ticking on those.  The Blue Angles are being forced to move to the Super Hornet next year because of the parts issue - though the Super Hornet is also being affected by this issue.  Point being... Hornets are quickly going the way of the Dodo Bird.

While it will be nice to finally get an aircraft for Naval Ops, I'll miss the added advantages that the Rhino brings to the fight.

It would also be nice to see a Strike Eagle on the Horizon, but starting that now would likely mean a 3 to 4 year development time line.

Regardless, I'm certainly looking forward to being able to enjoy Naval Ops with a Fighter/Attack aircraft!

Best wishes!

Hello Dave,I certainly can't argue with your points on the Real Life Hornet parts issues and why it's being phased out.I can only guess that the The Legacy  Hornet has been in The DCS pipeline with artwork and documentation started  many, many years ago.

A Third party developer RAZBAM had bought the rights to DCS F-15E AI Model,Although I don't see it in their line-up of aircraft they're working on,We can only hope to see it sometime in DCS.I loved the Janes F-15E StrikeEagle Sim:biggrin: Fun Days!!

The developers at VRS have a Super Hornet for FSX and P3D.

Why not recruit them to DCS World?

I'm pretty sure The creator/CEO of VRS  Does not agree with The DCS Business Model....Same with MilViz.

Yes, I raised this question on the VRS forums. It is too bad as their implementation of the Super Hornet is well done.

I'm currently running it under P3D V3.

It is to bad the business model of DCS World does not lure successful developers like Milviz or VRS, or others like A2A and Ants who have military and civilian A/C to compete in DCS's market.

While I look forward to the older version of the F-18 and carrier operations, the newer Hornet would have been a real asset?

DCS: F/A-18C HORNET AT E3 2017

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 29th, 2017 - DCS: F/A-18C Hornet to be unveiled at E3 2017!

Eagle Dynamics SA and Belsimtek are excited to announce that DCS: F/A-18C Hornet will have its debut showing at E3 2017 at the Thrustmaster® booth. DCS: F/A-18C will be by far the most authentic PC simulation of a modern fighter to date, and it will use unique CFD engine and aerodynamics developed by Belsimtek. Based on exhaustive research in association with Boeing, current fighter pilots and the development of our new simulation engine, the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet will set a new benchmark.

Eagle Dynamics SA senior producer, Matt Wagner, states, “We are happy to announce the cooperation between Eagle Dynamics SA and Thrustmaster® to create the ultimate F/A-18C Hornet simulation experience”. “After the success of our first collaboration with Eagle Dynamic SA on DCS: A-10C Warthog, that lead to the HOTAS Warthog, we are proud to start a new collaboration on the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet”, says Gilles Raulet, Thrustmaster Development Director.

Please stop by the Thrustmaster® booth South Hall #2813 and experience the next level of combat aviation simulation!

About DCS World

Digital Combat Simulator World (DCS World) is a free-to-play digital battlefield game. Our dream is to offer the most authentic and realistic simulation of military aircraft, tanks and ships possible. The free download includes a vast mission area of the Caucasus region and Black Sea that encompasses much of Georgia. It also includes the flyable Russian Sukhoi Su-25T ground attack aircraft and the famous WWII North American TF-51D fighter.

The download comes with the most powerful mission planner ever designed, full network play and more than 145 AI weapons systems, 113 ground vehicles and trains, 16 Ships and 73 AI aircraft permitting you to plan and play highly sophisticated missions. DCS World is massively extensible through additional DCS modules as well as user-made add-ons and mods which you can purchase and download from our site.
DCS is a true "sandbox" simulation that is also designed to cover multiple time periods of interest such as WWII, Vietnam, Gulf War and others. As examples of products progressing to completion for DCS, "Normandy 1944" is in final phase of development and "Persian Gulf" is close behind.
DCS World is fundamentally a deep, authentic and realistic simulation game designed also to offer a more relaxed game play to suit the user and his particular level of experience and training. The ambition is to hand hold users from novice pilot all the way to the most advanced and sophisticated operator of such complex weapons systems as the A-10C or the Mirage 2000C. The only next step is the real thing!

About Thrustmaster HOTAS :

Designed for simmers, by simmers:
The HOTAS WARTHOG™ joystick is the result of an intense collaboration between Thrustmaster's development teams and members of the simmer community. Exchanges and studies were carried out constantly throughout the product's development phase, in order to create a joystick which meets the most specific and precise requirements of the experts. The result is a replica set of the joystick, dual throttle system and dual throttle control panel of the U.S. Air Force A-10C attack aircraft.

With T.A.R.G.E.T software that allows for total interaction between different Thrustmaster USB controllers, with simplified configurations in simulators, and the use of a single preset for all controllers, The HOTAS WARTHOG™ joystick is ready for an enlarged ecosystem including among other development, new Add-On for Joystick.
