Gamers Should Be Worried About Windows 10 Automatic Updates.

Recommended Posts

Oh what a cheap and clumsy move by Microsoft! I hate automatic updates, or better to say, I'm really afraid of updates because I had a problem with them, messed up my system 2 years ago. Since then I didn't updated my Win7 one single time, and never had any security or compatibility/stability issues.

If updates are mandatory in Win10, I'm sure I will avoid that OS for a long time.

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

I've read about this.

This is definitely a big issue that MS is ignoring. It's also a problem that the "Device Installation Settings" doesn't work to stop driver updates.

I'm sure it'll get rectified soon enough.  I was never one to immediately hope on board with a new OS (with the exception of Windows Vista to Wondows 7).  There will be bugs, there will be issues.  I say wait for a little while to see how things cool down.

This seems to be a glitch in the "Get Windows 10" utility. The utility was recently updated (it looks a bit different than it was a week ago) so that's probably what caused it to show the 980TI as incompatible.

Regardless, this is only for the upgrade and it doesn't change the fact that Windows Updates will still force you to get driver updates, even if you don't want them.

Folks - there are quite a few threads addressing this "forced updates" issue.  However, there's been a new, and positive development from Microsoft.  Check out this article at Neowin.net.

It says it's for the insider program only. I wonder how it will work in the full release.

My insider build did something to fix my Creative driver which I am immensly happy for..  Being an insider build many features are disabled as a troubleshooting tool.  And drivers are pushed so the vendor can evaluate.  Its your choice.  You may have noticed that MS chose to follow the mobile phone update strategy.

If you choose to be in the Win10 Preview "Fast Ring" then we are the guinea pigs. Slow ring and regular users do not get updates until after the Fast Ring users. Are all the users affected on the Fast Ring? If yes, then this is by design. We are in effect testing the updates.

Did everyone miss this sentence or am I the only one that sees it.

"The tool is aimed at Windows Insiders running Windows 10 but will also work for normal users after the official launch of the OS on July 29."
