Alpha-max speed

Recommended Posts

I want to do an Alpha-max, but I cant find anywhere how to calculate the alpha-max speed.

Could someone explain how to calculate the alpha-max speed, or point me to an explanation?

Cheers!

Alpha is simply another way to say angle of attack, and since AoA is greatly influenced by speed, the idea is that you will simply be going as slow as you can go in that config. High alpha passes are not what the aircraft was made for, so chances are, you're not going to find anything to help you calculate the speed ahead of time (at least in a sense that you're not going to find a chart that specifically attempts to maximize alpha, though I'm sure you can find something that shows you stall speed).

Your best bet is to turn on the option to show the AoA gauge at the top of the PFD (under MENU > PMDG SETUP > AIRCRAFT > DISPLAYS), slow down, and manipulate the elevator and throttle to get you into a point where you're approaching the red line on the AoA dial. You're essentially going to be somewhere at, or near the red bricks on the speed bar.
