UK and Europe Scenery Combinations

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

I am planning overhauling my various sceneries and landclass etc etc and wondered if I could have some feedback on the best combo for the UK and Europe.

Thanks

FTX Europe - England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Then add the FTX airfields and/or UK2000 Airports.

I use FTX Global as the base with FTX Vector and FTX OpenLC for Europe-wide - gives a very good representation of the areas I actually know from flying over myself.

Or, you could try FTX Global and FTX Europe overlaid with UTX Europe v2.

Currently have

FTX Global

FTX Europe

Orbx Scotland, England

UK2K plus other airports.

I have vector but that's turned off which improved my VAS usage.

Do I need Vector?

Thanks

If you predominantly fly in the UK, you don't need a vector add on because your Orbx FTX EU England/Scotland already includes custom mesh, land class and vector data.

If you want more accurate lakes, shorelines, streets, highways, train lines, power lines, streams etc. in the rest of Europe you need to turn on your vector add on.

You can mitigate the VAS and fps impact of Vector by only activating the roads you really need - Highways and either Primary or Secondary roads (you don't need both).

Also disable small streams and the frozen water options. And keep the AI road traffic to low levels - no more than 10-15%.

You don't need Vector, but you already have it !

Honestly, the only thing I would suggest, above what you have, is EuroLC.  If you are concerned about VAS, just turn off FTX ENG/SCO when you can.  You've already got everything else you need, unless there are specific airports you are lacking.

I have a similar setup, for UK GA flying I enable FTX ENG/SCO/WLS (which don't benefit from the global and LC products), if I'm tube flying I disable them and enable FTXG/Vector/LC as they are easier on the VAS overall.

Couldn't agree more with Louis.  I have the same exact combination and let me tell ya, a nice flight from Manchester to Dublin allowed for some breathtaking scenery to view. :)

I really like Vector and found the same thing.  I check Highways and all of the subclass checks for it, but Primary, Secondary and Tertiary roads and Railroads I only check the top block and not the subclasses..really helped VAS.

Thanks for thoughts guys.

Next question, what is the correct layering to ensure unnecessary loading etc.

Thanks

Airports

above

Regions

above

Generic

Landclass at the bottom of the menu, just above the default entries

FTX will do all this for you, and then you can check that you've got what the manuals recommend using FTX Central V2, which can also be used to manually change the layering if required.
