Good Day All,

Trust all is well in the air and on the ground.

Please advise. i am just about to order the new pc, specs below,

Intel Haswell i5-4460

16Gb Kingston Hyperx Fury Ram (2 x 8gb Sticks)

Asus H81M-K Mobo

Asus Strix GTX970-DC2oC-4GD5 Graphics

Western Digital 1TB Sata6g

Corsair VS550 PSU

Will this be a decent enough rig to enjoy some HD flying via my HD Samsung TV?

Any comments, Yesses or NOOOOOS will be much appreciated.

Take care guys and gals...maybe

Mike

As far as I know that CPU is locked so no overclocking, performance will thus be limited.

Hi Glynn,

Many thanks for the input, I will look into that, what would you recommend cpu front? Is the graphics card enough to support HD visuals though?

Kind Regards

Mike

I would always buy a K series chip and a motherboard built to support OC.

Define HD visuals ? The card is fine but probably not if your TV is 4K

Yep make sure its a K and you can enable DSR x 4  in nvidia control panel to get a much sharper picture.

Your current CPU is fine.

You can google DSR to get a better understanding of what it does. Im using a 55" 1080p TV with DSR x 4 and its jaw dropping :-)

For current and future flightsims I think you really want to be overclocking the CPU.
1) The system your planning can't overclock the CPU. Also there is no unlocked "i5-4460K" CPU and the chipsets H97, H87 and H81 do not support CPU overclocking.)
2) The H81 chipset does not support PCIe v3, it's not a big deal but for a new build I'd want to take full advantage of a GTX970 GPU.
3) If you go for an i5-4460 avoid the S or T models.
4) The i5-4670(K) and i5-4690(K) are about the same price.

5) Consider a 2nd dedicated hard drive for your flightsim software.

Anyway I'd suggest (most £££s to least £££s):
i5-4690K + Z97 M/B... To overclcok the CPU.
i5-4690   + H97 M/B
i5-4670K + Z87 M/B... To overclcok the CPU + get great deal on the Z87.
i5-4670   + H87 M/B... Get great deal on the H87.
i5-4460   + H87 M/B... Minimum spec I'd consider for a GTX970.
i5-4460   + H81 M/B... no PCIe v3

The i5-4460 + H81 + GTX970 will not be a bad system but for a few more £££s I think you could get a better overall deal.
