virus on P3D Website?

Recommended Posts

I just logged into the Prepar3d Website and it appears there is a virus in the forums. Any one have any ideas? Strange symbols on every topic. Hope they get rid of it asap and it doesn't cause much damage.

Ouch. Just went there: looks like Ruskies.

Update: I ran the text that's plastered on every thread thru Google translate. Double ouch.

Ditto here on my iPad.

I suspect this is more likely to be user specific.

Thank goodness they have changed the format appearance of the forums. Taken them awhile but I think the wait was worth it. Now looks similar to the way it looked a couple of years ago. Much better!

Looks like it's been removed. Was possibly a malicious posting within the forums. Every topic within the forums had a reply in Russian language, and every reply  had links to very unsavoury sites. Just checked the P3D forums now and all is back to normal.

Their new forums are being attacked every day by postings of extremely questionable content. It's best to not go in there late at night (U.S. time).

I love how every technology issue, or "bug", whose cause is unknown is immediately deemed a "virus" by end-users.

The P3D forum servers just underwent maintenance to facilitate upgrades for new forum software.  This maintenance occurred on August 11th (so less than a week ago) and was mentioned by Rob Ainscough on this here forum.  http://www.avsim.com/topic/473038-potential-prepar3d-v3-clue-in-fsuipc-log-4942-release/page-6#entry3281791  Issues which become apparent after changes of such scope are often caused by said changes.

Hi Peter,

I think you may be correct and I stand corrected!

Come to think about it, I did notice a strange post in, I think, the 'Rules and News' section. The date of posting was today and the title consisted of a couple of obscure Latin flavoured words designed, I suspect, with the intention of luring in the curious reader. I can't find it now so it must have been removed. Fortunately I didn't take the bait!

Regards,

Mike

Um, yeah. Side effects of server maintenance do not include the title of every topic being changed to Cyrillic characters with a large post in Russian talking about porn... and then with links to the same...

Exactly...it's damn annoying to see our favorite sites affected by such nonsense...I guess some people have too much time on their hands! :Shame On You:

I didn't see this "case" on the P3D forums, but I suspect it was a bot spamming junk on threads. Bots are a very common issue on many forums these days.

You'll notice I responded to the first post, which did not include any information about foreign alphabet characters.
