FS9 and Windows 10

Recommended Posts

Has anyone figured out how to get FS9 to work with Win 10? I've scoured the internet and can only find a lot of frustrated people with no answers. I've already tried all the compatiblity modes, re-installing, installing to a different location outside the programs folder, etc. Any new ideas?

Thanks

Well, I'd like to give you the "solution"  which quite a few Windows 10 users are using ..... but it might get me banned from this site as it's a no-no topic ..... even after all these years.  But .... I CAN offer you the apparent problem :   www.winbeta.org/news/windows-10-wont-run-games-with-certain-older-cd-rom-drms

Note:  It has to do with running FS2004 using Disk 4 ...... or not .... maybe .....hint .... hint .... hint .... but it was never mentioned here you understand .....

Thanks. I have the original disks. Sure I am not of your recommendation hb61758athotmaildotcom so maybe I need clarification. Feel free to respond.

FS2004 and Win10 are not compatible because Win10 does not support the CD DRM method that was used and supported when FS2004 was released.  It's just that simple

gwillmot - I'm well aware of that page - my statement stands and that page confirms it.  A marketer's comments with regard to dodging the EULA aren't worth the paper they are printed on.  When MS corporate or legal makes a statement that a DRM work around is OK and the EULA is void then alternative methods can be talked about, but not until then.

I'm thinking the article was more about the "problem" rather than the solution which can't be discussed here .... hence .... your post was a reiteration of the "problem".  No big deal

As far as cracking the DRM, I have the original disks and I am not going to "pirate" the software. Its obvious the work around is a PIA and I'm not going to attempt it. I have an old VISTA (ugh!) machine I can run it on, though its slow and tempermental.

Anyone try FSX on Windows 10 yet?

By all reports, FSX runs fine on Win10 as long as you install it outside the protected directories (Program Files... etc.)

I always keep a copy of FS9 complete on an external HD. Plug it to your Win10 setup and start it up.

It works simple.

I upgrade my FS9 Windows 7 PC to Windows 10 and can say that I have had no issues with running FS9 on Windows 10, infact it seems to run even better under window 10 than Windows7.

Hi Everyone! Do not worry. I had the same issue on win10. Black screen on styartup.

After installing directx 11.2, simply started the game, made a click in the Black screen, and press ALT +ENTER. It exits from full screen mode, and the game works perfectly!

You can adjust the window size to the screen, so it doesn't make any difference.

This Black screen problem affects the full screen mode only!
