Upgrading my Hardware, search for hints

Recommended Posts

Hello Pilots!

Currently I am planning to upgrade my PC for better performance in FSX with all my addons. Now I wanted to see if anyone has recommendations for me. Especially because I cant decide if I should first upgrade my CPU or my Graphic card  :unknw:

What I mainly use on my flights: PMDG 737, Aerosoft Airbus series - FS2Crew - Active Sky Next with some AS2012 textures and REX Softclouds - FTX Global Base and Vector - ProAtc X - FSRealtime - EZCamViews (not ezdok) - FS-Simtimzer - and than FlyTampa LOWW - Aerosoft EDDH and EHAM - the rest of my Airports are relative FPS friendly freewares... I think this are my mostly used progs when flying.

My actual Hardware (and OS):

WIN10 Pro

Mainboard: Gigabyte-78LMT-S2P

AMD FX-4130 Quad Core

EVGA - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650Ti

8 GB RAM

and I think my HDD is a Hitachi...

What I think about for upgrade (IMHO):

AMD FX-6300, 6x 3.5GHz
or
AMD FX-8320, 8x 3.50GHz

EVGA GeForce GTX 950 SSC

What do you think about it, or maybe you have some experiences about this... share it with me

Thank you,

Klaus Schmitzer

AMD... Not a good idea

I'd go Intel and do a new build - 4690K if you're on a budget

The CPU upgrade is going to give you better performance with FSX.  I just moved from a GTX 560 Ti to a GTX 760 Super Clocked card and got little if any performance improvements.

Get the Intel "K" model and overclock it.  Many motherboards have a auto-OC option, that will yield extra FPS without stressing the cpu or memory.

I already thinked about getting an intel... but its all about the money :-P

Is AMD really that worse? :-)

Whats about an INTEL Core i5-4460, 4x 3.20GHz?

I know how it feels when it comes to money. Intel is the only way to go.

I use a i5 3470 with few quality addons and i'm happy. I can maintein +25fps with no sttuters on FSX-SE.

You could go with the 4460 or check for second hand-hardware. Search for and 2500K or a 3570K, and OC them if you know how. Remember you will need a type "Z" chipset motherboard to do so.

Cheers :)

Thank you guys for your opinions!

Now I know that it would be the best way to first change my CPU. Ithink I will go for the i5-4460, it is not that expensive, and later on for a graphic card.

Now I have to watch some youtube tutorials for how to change a CPU :-)

If anyone has more to say please do it, especially in thermes of graphic cards.

Another question that comes to my mind: What do you think about RAM? I think for FSX with addons is 8GB enough... I heard about systems with 16GB.

Always three green,

Ehm, you are aware of the fact that in your case, you do not only need to change the CPU but also the mainboard? Regarding RAM: yes, 8GB are enough for FSX.

At the moment, the i7 4790K is the standard CPU.

Either a Z97 or Z87 board will work with the above CPU

You could do a G3258 build... But you'll need to overclock it pretty high to get good performance in fsx

I'm not familiar with this build but it is a budget minded one - you'd need a new motherboard too

Just don't use it with Windows 10

If you're on a tight budget, as Ryan said, G3258 CPU, with an MSI H81-E33 or an Asus H81-Plus will do you a treat.  You'll get 4.2ghz out of it without trying.

Thank you very much guys for infos! I decided that I stick for now with just an upgrade to AMD FX-6300... Its cheap, and maybe a little better. Than I save money to build a new system, based on intel :-)

Well, you know that FSX will not benefit from the additional cores? The current FX-4130 you have runs with 3.8GHz while the FX-6300 runs only with 3.5GHz, so without overclocking the FX-6300, this processor might be in fact slower than the one you currently use...

I know that, but I thought about turbo core function.. It should go over 4Ghz with it??

...if not, has anyone an idea whats the best cpu running on GA 78LMT-S2P?

Thanks
