The shortest runway of the world...

Featured Replies

Hi everybodyDo you know which is the shortest runway of FS sceneries ? And the narrowest ? And the highest ? Well, the shortest is rwy 06 at VILH (Leh - India), with 534 feet at 10680 feet altitude, 100% surounded by water. Obviously impossible, but I landed a Cessna there.I carried out a compilation of all airports in FS9 sceneries and built a database in Access, allowing me all sort of searches. If anyone is interested I can send the zip (120 KB) or post it here.Jose

Have you tried SABA?Daniel P.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpgMember of SJU Photography. [A HREF=http://www.jetphotos.net/showphotos.php?userid=9004]Click Here[/A] to view my aircraft photos at JetPhotos.Net!The official psychotic AA painter. :)

Hi JoseI don't exactly know, but the shortes runway I have met is Portland Navy - try that one out - its reeaallly short !!RegardsHenrik KorningBGGH

I haven't been to Leh in FS9 but I did go there for real about twenty years ago and it definitely wasn't surrounded by water. It hardly ever rains in Ladakh, the mountain sides are completely bare and any water comes from irrigation. We were meant to fly into Leh from Srinigar but the half hour flight was cancelled at the last minute. Shame, not only from the point of view of missing an amazing flight but the road trip took four days!John

Hi,There is a really short runway on the South coast of England, UK, at 400ft long.Best regards,Vulcan.

KAVX, catalina California, an island off the coast of Los Angeles. 3240x100Pretty short, many people have crashed because its elevated on the top of a cliff with no visual references to height. http://www.airnav.com/airport/KAVXhas a fantastic picture of the airport

Saba is the shortest commercial runway in the world. Groom Lake, Area 51, has the longest. Highest? Probably Daulet Beg Oldi. Narrowest? Haven't a clue. Would be fun to see your database, thanks. You surely know this joke: Yes, we have the shortest runways, but they are very, very large.hm

>You surely know this joke: >>Yes, we have the shortest runways, but they are very, very>large.>Is that a variant of the following conversation, unkindly attributed by the British to an Aer Lingus Jetstream 32?Tower: "Shamrock 368, you are cleared to land, winds calm"(Sounds in the cabin of maximum reverse thrust, very heavy braking, hand baggage being thrown about, passengers screaming, the plane squealing to a halt.) First Officer: "Begorrah, Captain, we only just stopped going over the end!"Tower: "Shamrock 368, next time please land along the runway, not across it."

It is a Dutch Caribbean Island , just a short flight from Saint Martin Island. I believe it has a longer runway than the one you mention. I went there in a Twin Otter. There is water on either side of the airport, which is built on a slice taken out from a side of this mountainous Island, which believe it or not, does not have any beaches. There are a couple of sceneries, mesh and and land class built for this mountain island. BTW I am very interested on your data base. Could you send it to [email protected], or post it here?Edmundo CardenasSVMI
