Best Weather Engine?

Recommended Posts

Been using FSGRW and seems like it's not depicting weather per reports and real radar. Might change to another wx eng, any suggestions?

Active sky next is probably the best, I was also using FSGRW and was happy with it but I found it a bit slow to update the weather conditions. Im using ASN now and I love it.

ASN always has good support and constant updates. Plus it integrates into the navigation display for PMDG and Aerosoft Airbus I do not know if others do this

If you have the budget I recommend Rex4 Texture Direct and Soft Clouds for the environmental textures and ASN for the weather engine

I originally used REX's weather engine, but was a little disappointed. FSXWX is a great freeware alternative; it looks great, performs amazingly, and is FREE!

If you wanna dish out a few extra bucks, ASN is the way to go. By far the BEST weather engine I've used... and I've been flight simming since FS9. Plus, Aerosoft's Airbus and PMDG's 737/777 can use it to power the weather radar.

ASN -  Payware

FSXWX -  Freeware

Take your pick

It has been spot on for me.

ASN -  Payware

FSXWX -  Freeware

Agree 100%. Before going payware I tried both FSXWX and FSrealWX. I found that FSXWX was more stable on my system; FSrealWX seemed to randomly freeze and stop updating. Incidentally, I've just noticed on the FSrealWX website that it's now changed to trialware - €20 + tax after 20 days (http://www.fsrealwx.net/index.php/17-buy-cat/34-buy-fsrealwx-20). With regards to payware, I tried FSGRW but didn't like the way FSX paused for several seconds every time the weather updated (deadly on short finals!). Finally settled on ASN which gives by far the best weather depiction of any of the weather engines I've tried with no pauses on update and no noticeable framerate hit.

ASN SP3, it's almost a quantum leap, and I own every WX-injecter that is around :)

been a long-time REX Essential user. I really like their products and recently bought Texture Direct and Soft Clouds, must have add-ons imho.

I was also using their weather engine, the good/bad scale unfortunately leaning toward the latter in the past months, plus it takes them forever to release updates.

Tried ASN last night with a free trial key. Holy heaven. I'm sold, the difference is a no-brainer, not to mention the ASTOUNDING fps increase in my particular situation.

Being a customer who really likes and supports REX products (couldn't fly without their textures and clouds!), I'd love to post some constructive criticism on their forum. Their weather engine currently stands no chance against ASN.

I encourage anyone who hasn't to try it out, I doubt you'll ever look back.

REX team, come on, color me impressed!

FSXWX -freeware- I'm happy with it

Agree 100%, have tried several other free and paid weather engines and found this to be the best. I haven't tried ASN and whilst it's likely to be better I doubt I'd consider it worth the cost.

It used to be a pretty close race among REX, FSGRW, ASN and OpusFSI, but nowadays ASN is way ahead and a clear winner. The UI has very detailed options, the weather is realistic and it has weather radar. The latter option can be used to add such a gauge to the VC of most aircraft. REX still makes the best cloud texture product in REX TD 4 w/soft clouds and using that plus ASN give excellent immersion.
