Think about buying T7... and about oom

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I think about getting this awesome bird, but now I read a lot about the oom's. Also I read a lot about avoiding it. But it seems that "switching off scenerys not needed" and "save flight before descent" (which is unuseable for me because of the acars from my virtual airline) are the only solutions.

I dont use that much payware airports (LOWW flytampa and EHAM, EDDH aerosoft)

Is there a way to guess if I will run into oom's or a proofed solution for avoiding it?

Thank you very much!

A way to guess? Yes: tons and tons of scenery, with lots of autogen, and high resolution textures. If you have all of that, and then add the 777 on top of it, you'll "spill over" the limit pretty easily.

A solution to avoid it? Yes: leave your scenery on, but cut back on autogen, and use lower texture resolution. Doing this will force the scenery to take up less space.

I knocked my autogen back by one notch and I haven't seen an error since - even on 15 hour flights.

Hey Kyle, does using triple screens affect VAS & OOM's? I use the triple head to go unit with 3 --27" Monitors,

One thing more, I also use ORBX Global and vector.

@scandinavian13: This sounds good, because at this time I use reduced settings for better performance. I think nothing is on max. But I still like my graphics inflight.

I use some addons beside of FSX. Like ASN, Proatcx, Fsrealtime, my acars for va... But I think this will not affect VAS?

I run Autogen on NORMAL with Global and Vector.  I'm currently doing a PHNL (FSDT) to VHHX (Fly Tampa) and the VAS in the middle of the Pacific is currently setting on 1906032.  Heavy weather into PHNL yesterday had the VAS down to about 1500000.  I haven't had any OOM problems and my rig is average at best.  The current driver is NV 355.60 which has been very good.  :-)

I've flown from PANC to KSFO following the coastline and have not had any problems.  Autogen is at normal and I stay inside the cockpit, no switching to external views. Orbx scenery all the way, but no payware airports.

I've also flown from YSSY to RPLL with no trouble other than having to go around twice due to a nasty thunderstorm (and even then no OOMs).

Thank you guys, looks like I dont have any concerns on my way to the T7... but to be honest, I think there was never a way around the 777 for me ;-)

read my guild in my sig.

I already loaded your flows for FS2CREW, I like the look of it! Clear information and straight forward formating, thank you.

happy landings,

You wouldn't need vector if you are flying 777. You can instead create a vector profile for airliners and ga as well as p3d settings for both of those. Vector, with all settings enabled, has been seen as a common factor with OOMS in most cases, apart from texture resolutions/auto gen off course. So cutting down on vector + texture resolution + autopen reduction definitely helps.
