FSX and P3D install advise

Recommended Posts

I have an MSI GT72-QD Dominator which has a 500gb ssd and a 1TB hard drive which is empty, the operating system is installed on the 500gb drive so would it be advisable to, or can I install fsx and p3d onto the 1tb drive in separate folders. This is a complete new installation of both fsx and p3d onto this new rig with all the addons, just looking for some install advise.

Cheers Rod.

Putting them both on the HDD is no problem. Just create the folders you want and then point the installers to those folders. The in-game performance will be the same whether the games are loaded to the SSD or the HDD. Loading times will be quicker on the SSD but that's the only gain. You might want to consider loading the sim you use the most onto the SSD and the other sim on to the HDD. I wouldn't put them both on the SSD as the total size, depending on add-ons, for both sims could easily exceed 300GB. Don't worry about the OS being on the same drive as the sim - with OS on an SSD it makes no difference.

Thanks for the advise Doug I've chosen the 1TB HDD for my beloved fsx in dx10 and all its addons and P3D on the SSD as its a much smaller foot print at the moment, loading times for fsx on this drive is lightning fast, very happy thank you.

Cheers Rod.

Sound good Rod. That will give you the growing room you'll need. It's amazing how the space needed to store "stuff" just grows and grows.  Over the years I've managed to collect 1.3TB of flightsim "stuff". I'd be the first to admit that I never throw anything away but then you never know when you might want to try FS95 again.....:-)
