My Completed 6700K Build (Decent sized Photos)

Recommended Posts

Okay guys about a week ago I posted seeking advice for a new build since my old PC was ready to retire.

I ended up with a Intel Core i7 6700K,Corsair H100i GTX, Noctua CPU Fans, ASUS Republic Of Gamers VIII Hero mobo, 4X4gb GSkill Ripjaw V 3200mhz for XMP, EVGA 980GTX SC, Samsung 850 500gb SSD, EVGA 850 Watt 80 Gold Modular PSU, 1TB WD Black 7200rpm, with a 64gb Cache SSD drive running Windows 10 all in a Corsair 650D.

Here are the pics, I have successfully used the ASUS 5-Way optimizer and achieved a stable 24/7 4.8ghxz OC with XMP. Temps never break 72c, this is great!

Looks nice. Good choice on the RAM. Please run the FSX MARK 11 test (top thread in this forum) and post your results. I would like to compare to my 4790k @ 5GHz to see if Skylake is worth the upgrade. Thanks.

Does your 650D now have usb3 headers? My original had those silly pass through cables

A few questions for you:

1) On the ram, is 4x4 better than 8x2 ?  I have read this somewhere for Skylake.

2) What is the thinking these days on HDD for storage.  I was looking at 2TB WD Green but have Samsung Pro 128 for my C drive and Samsung Pro 512 for Flight Sim.

3) I have the 650D case now and love it but I can't seem to find it at the store I normally go to, they have the 750D.  Is 650D out of production?

Nerd porn. Looks great!

Two things: could I also request a benchmark? Run an Intel Extreme Tuning Utility benchmark and post your number. I've been spotting some numbers on HWBot that seem to show a 40-60% increase over a similarly-clocked Ivy Bridge (RAM differences acknowledged). Synthetic benchmark, sure. (It's a free utility and the benchmark runs in about a minute).

Second, toss that stock EVGA cooler in the garbage (well, not really). Think about putting a G10 Kraken with an H55 on it. About 20*C cooler...

I wonder if that 20C drop is only for delided CPU's.  I have seen those kind of drops in this case with same cooler.

Mark - I'm talking about the GPU in this instance. That stock reference cooler isn't all that great. My GTX780 Ti SC came with the same cooler and the first thing I did was pull it off. Not only is it ineffective but, depending on where you have your computer case/desk/setup, it shovels a bunch of heat behind--and all around--the case.

I did delid my CPU but none of the cores dropped that drastically. Definitely worth it but not 20*C.

I choose the reference card for that very reason, I wanted the card to exhaust all the heat OUT of the case, as all my rear fans are exhaust I don't care if there's swirls of heat back there. Now my case gets fresh cool air for the H100i and the 980, all temps are excellent. Even at 4.8ghz floored 68c is the max. Never had to delid either.

Now if only FSX didn't crash so often on Win 10... Fsuipc CTDs and display CTDs already searching for diff drivers ughh

Good news re 5 way optimization Angelo, nice to know that asus auto rules are doing the trick.

Did you use the 5 way optimization limiting feature, whereby you can set a max temperature, voltage or frequency, or did you just let it do it's thing unimpeded?

Which Noctua fans did you install on your cooler? Was it the NF-F12's?

Re the RAM, it's duel channel, 4 slots. The way I understand it is that 2 sticks aren't better than full population, but Asus have made modifications to their motherboards so that all slots populated won't compromise max memory overclocking.

The asus T-Topology design has been improved, better traces, signaling better apparently.
