Nice Cirrus SR-20 coming for X-Plane 19

Recommended Posts

It looks alright.  I wonder how detailed the avionics will be?  I've found the majority of XP stuff is below par.  One of the big downsides of XP10 addons over FSX (is quality of avionics).  But there is hope especially with the released Carenado T182 G1000 - obviously a lot of bugs but Dan/Carenado are working to fix them.

edit:  Reading through that SR20 post it seems the avionics will be lite as usual.... argh.  I will say in general I'm happy XP10 redid the GNS530/430 so we can update stuff.  Still the units miss a lot of functionality...  loading STARS/SIDS would be a great help as well.  I appreciate the developers who implement a GNS530 or 430 spot in their cockpits.

Yep, it'd be great if we had SID/STARS available in the GNS units.

My most flown aircraft in XP to date (which may one day get overtaken by the ViperJet) has been the Aerobask Epic E1000.  I absolutely love it; goes fast, simple to operate, looks great inside and out, a lot of fun.  But it does take a bit of suspension to use that biiiiiig GNS display in the G1000 spot.  You get used to it, but still.

What'd be perfect is if LR were to do a G1000 MFD equivalent of their GNS units. I'm sure it'd make a lot of developers extremely happy.

Yes I have been flying that viper jet a lot as well.  The only thing that still irks me is the 8.33kHz spacing while tuning the GNS530 comm radios.  Takes a long time and is hard to read.  I fly online so fast and accurate radio tuning is important.

Do you have the DDEN Challenger?  Man that thing is tough to fly/operate single pilot IFR online.  The clickspots for the radio tuning and operation is a nightmare.  I'd love to have some sort of radio stack with tactile feedback!

I'll be honest Ryan, I ignore the comm radios altogether. :)  I have yet to touch them in XP at all, since I don't fly online, and from what I can tell the ATC isn't worth using.  I have the DDEN Challenger, but I've only done a few simple flights with it.

However, I noticed the 8.33kHz spacing on the GPS units just on Friday.  I was creating (successfully) pilot activated lighting in my current project.  I decided that instead of simulating full pilot activated lighting, I'd just simulate someone on the ground turning the lights on when you radio in. So I settled on simply having them turn on when you tune into the Unicom frequency.

During testing, and setting up the animation commands in my object files (I created new runway & taxiway models), I stumbled on the fact that not only is there separate datarefs for 8.33 spacing, the GNS units and the stock comm units tune differently, and thus set different values in the datarefs!

If I was flying online, I'd want to use hardware rotary encoders.  I have some that I'm planning to put in the face of my PFC console, but I have yet to do that.

Oh, nice, a thread about our aircraft. :)

Reading through that SR20 post it seems the avionics will be lite as usual.... argh.

Well, I think "lite as usual" is not entirely true.  Even though we (apparently unlike Carenado) don't have the goal to create a true simulation of the G1000, our avionics are quite functional. With a custom flight plan interface, "nearest" windows, interactive checklists, enhanced HSI, a detailed engine page, a reversionary mode that actually reacts on MFD failure and removed circuit breaker, as well as several tiny details our avionics offer more than most other X-Plane GA glass cockpit aircraft. So although we can't include procedures and topographic maps at this time (which I honestly don't see as critical for performing successful entertainment flights in X-Plane), a lot of work and thought has gone into the avionics.

When the aircraft becomes available, the full manual will be available for download, so you can decide by yourself if it is something for you or not.

Well that's good news.  Terrain isn't so much of an issue.  But the bread and butter of glass is the flight plan entry stuff.... procedures, sids/stars, airway entering...  taking the load off the pilot (which ironically sometimes they make it worse).  That's why it's easy to bum me out sometimes.

But I wish you guys well for the product!  I've got a little cirrus stick time myself, here in Duluth -home of Cirrus!

Release of the SR20 is not far away anymore. Release Candidate 1 has just been sent to our beta testers, and we're putting the final touches to the manual.

In case you did not follow the thread at x-plane.org, here is a link to some near-to-final screenshots:

And here's a picture I took a few minutes ago, flying from Palo Alto to Shelter Cove. The first relaxation flight I did since a lot of months.

I'm sure we can make one available after release.

Great!  It'll be fun to paint one up as a T-53A.

That is, if you guys aren't already...

Regardless, I'm really looking forward to this release.  It's hands down what I'm most looking forward to at the moment!

No, the military trainer livery won't be part of the package. This is also because the real T-53A is configured quite differently than the standard SR20 (no back seats, no autopilot, two-blade prop, no wheel pants), so just a livery wouldn't be enough to do it right.

Here's a nice article about the T-53A: http://www.progaviation.com/articles/sr20uniform.pdf

Yep, I knew it was a bit different.  From a developer's perspective, that's a very valid reason not to do the livery as part of the package, so I wouldn't of expected it!

That said, a paint kit being available, so that we might create our own livery and well, pretend it's a T-53A is more than good enough.

Edit:  I should also make it clear that I'm looking forward to the aircraft purely on it's own merits.  The fact that I may be able to give it a cool paint job is just icing on the cake!

Well, I talked to Igor and Walker, and in fact a paint kit is already done and will be made available immediately after aircraft release.
