Trees and Buildings on Airports

Featured Replies

Hello everybody!

I'm having a problem with trees and buildings on some of my airports... I think it has something to do with Orbx - particularly Vector. If I disable AEC, I get trees and buildings; If I enable it, I get incorrect elevations with cliffs. What I can clearly see happening is that the airport's Flatten boundary is gone, because rough terrain shows through the runways along with the buildings and trees. Tried all kinds of combinations of layers to fix it but nothing is working. Really don't want to re-do my P3D installation!!

Yep, that's a well-known problem with FTX-Global and Vector. Some third-party airport sceneries do not contain an autogen-exclusion polygon because it is not needed in standard FSX/P3D sceneries. However, it is needed with Vector. You can

1) Contact ORBX and ask them to provide a fix for a particular airport. I think they did that for some locations, but you cannot expect them to do it for all airport sceneries out there.

2) I fixed this myself by using the Airport Scenery Editor and adding an exclusion polygon for those airports for which I cared most. It takes a bit of time to learn this, but it is easy once you know the drill.

Best,

Peter

I agree with Peter and believe his suggested fix using the Airport Scenery Editor utility is the best solution. I have an excellent freeware version of my home airport (CYND) that I just won't do without that I was able to fix by deactivating a CVX file, in this case CVX_LC_GATINEAU.BGL. I don't know much about scenery files but based on information contained in other posts related to this issue, it appears the file contains landclass data that conflict with ORBX data. You may be lucky and have such a file in your Scenery fold that if deactivated, would fix it.
