September 26, 201510 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Alex, I have recently built a new Rig for P3D on windows 10...Skylake i7 6700k on a Asus hero mobo...with 16gig of Vengeance 2666mhz DDR4 LPX ram, I have a gtx9704gb strix gpu My overclock is 4.6 and it runs real sweet I have it running awesome in Orbx PNW etc with Rex softclouds...at very high density & hdr settings... I tried from Birmingham (UK2000) to Orbx Southampton with FTX EU eng in my Majestic Dash 8 and got oom's until I turned off hdr and reduces sliders to normal. Please could you post your .cfg and p3d settings so I can cross check against mine...many thanks... Do you think HDR causes OOM's? I actually did get one the other day doing ENBR to EKCH.. September 26, 201510 yr Yes it appears to...without hdr I flew from Orbx Southampton to UK2000 Brum and then continued to Orbx Sunburgh without a problem... With HDR on it goes oom on finals to Brum...also same if flying from Brum to Stansted (both UK2000 and Orbx England) Give it a try and see... What are your P3D .cfg settings? Rgds, Shaun
September 28, 201510 yr Great thread. I am on a 2500K @ 4.5Ghz and I thought that the 6700k is going to be the next platform to upgrade to. I wonder what the sweet spot in terms of memory will be. I will be interested if you can find an airport where the FPS dips below 30 in the PMDG 777 with your new toy. I have moved over to FSX Steam and its amazing what Dovetail have done with the VAS in DX9. Hamish.
September 28, 201510 yr Hello Alex.. Good to hear that you're getting great performance out of your pc .. Are you using a 4k screen with the sim? Cheers Faisal Altheyab

P3d is even better on VAS and performance, you could give V3 a go! Hello Alex.. Good to hear that you're getting great performance out of your pc .. Are you using a 4k screen with the sim? Cheers At the moment no, 1080p still. I am waiting for the new ASUS ROG IPS monitor which will be 1440p 160hz g sync. Alex Ridge Join Fswakevortex here! YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK
September 30, 201510 yr Maybe I was lost down the track but please remind me why some users here at Avsim can't buy the academic version for 60 bucks instead of the professional one for 200 ? I thought all in here used the former. Brynjar Mauseth

October 2, 201510 yr I've given it a little bit of thought although it would cost a fortune as it requires new motherboard and ram. Do you think I would see similar results going from a i5 2500k @ 4.7 with a GTX 570 to a i5 6600k and a GTX 970, or is the i7 6700K and GTX 980 really that much better? October 6, 201510 yr Commercial Member If anyone wants me to clarify anything I would be more than happy to, whether it be settings or situation. Hi Alex, You posted initially just before v3 was announced, but I am wondering if you have P3D v3.0 and if so, what results are you seeing? REX AccuSeason Developer REX Simulations
October 6, 201510 yr Author Commercial Member I am working tonight I will get back to you with some facts soon. I did a quick circuit with the 777 at a really heavy area KLAX.. Every slider way towards the right (not everything maxxed of course) and I was getting 30fps in the VC. I'll report back Alex Ridge Join Fswakevortex here! YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK
October 12, 201510 yr I just want to share my experience. I went the same way - from Sandybridge to Skylake. I had i5-2500K overclocked to 4.7 GHz, 8GB DDR3 RAM and nVidia GTX660. I was pretty satisfied. After three years of great service, Sandy died - BSOD every flight. I bought the i7-6700K, paired with 16GB DDR4 RAM and GTX970. I overclocked the proc from 4.0 to 4.5 GHz. After a day of installing and slight tuning the DX10 in my sim, I completed my first flight. Wow. WOW! The fluidness was something completely different, even though I didn`t go beyond limiting the frames on 30 fps as suggested (I had the same on my old rig). Again, everything is so fluid. Textures are brilliantly sharp immediately, no need to wait couple of milliseconds to sharpen. Rainy, stormy and cloudy weather approaching T2G Istanbul in the great PMDG 737 NGX with full UT2 traffic, FSX Global and Vector? Absolutely no drop in fps, still smooth as the real life (OK, I maybe went to far in my excitement, but still..). Fantastic. All I can say: Sleep well, Sandy, this investment was worth every penny. V
