Wait for 3.0 before buying new addons?

Recommended Posts

With all the speculation of V3 being released and various discussions about whether or not developers will charge for upgrades to V3 for their addons, I find myself unsure as whether I should invest in any addons right now or hold out for V3?

As no one knows when it will be released (could be today or in several months), I find that LM not establishing an approximate release date not exactly a favorable approach in terms of developers as I am sure there must be others like me who wish to spend their hard earned coinage on nice new shiny addons but are resisting. Anyone else holding back on purchases like myself until V3 is out? Do you think this is being overly cautious or wise?

Its hard to say since no one but you really knows what you can afford and how much you want the addons. I don't think the upgrades will cost all that much and I bet that many will be free. I think the bigger factor is the release date. Once V3 is released it could take a long time for developers to update their products to be compatible with V3. So who knows how long it could be. There are some addons I can't live without so until developers like PMDG and HiFi (activesky) are compatible, I will be holding off.

When 3.0 comes out I am going to see what it offers that I don't have now. Then I will  read posts from the people that are sure to rush out and get it the first day it is available, to see what kind of problems they run into. A couple of months down the road, I will probably get it.

Personally speaking, I would wait a couple of weeks for some news maybe.

Life is short. It is a stupid thing to wait. If you want an addon, get it. Don't overthink.

Oh Dear, these expectations that developers 'owe' us somehow, & because they will not tell us, blah, blah, blah!

All in good time, lads! Get on with learning what you have, instead of saying that LM has to tell us, more or less, when v2.6/v3 will be released!

Well that's very true as well.

Buy an addon, fly it around a bit, THEN eat dessert, surely?  :fool:

Though I have no proof, I would think that LM are well aware of who the major "players" are in the add-on market, so it seems logical that developers like PMDG, Aerosoft, HiFi etc. probably have access to beta versions of 3.0 to help them get ready.

If so, hopefully there will not be a long wait for V3-compatible updates to come out once LM releases the new version.

I believe that most developers would have a grace period for purchases on the edge. I've seen anywhere from a few days to a month or two. I'd go ahead and buy what you want.
