MilViz call halt on V3

Recommended Posts

From Military Visualizations FaceBook Page :-

"To all users of P3d Version 3:

We will not be supporting V3 until such time as any hotfixes are out. At least 2 months. What does this mean for you? That most of our products will not function properly (if at all) in the new sim.

Thanks for your attention".

Methinks that whoever wrote that rather terse little statement was NOT having a good day? Hmmmm.....

Or it simply means that it takes time to re-do the installers for v3 and that's not their priority at the moment.

New sims are good but I'm concerned at what devs are going to do with updates etc.  They'll probably have to charge for updates etc.

Oh! I can sympathise with that Ryan but I am sure that, from a PR point of view, it could have been worded a little bit better than just telling their existing Customers that they are basically stuffed!

I have a feeling that they might be misunderstanding the issues of install folders as many here. It is a RECOMMENDATION at this time, NOT mandatory. Over time, the developers can produce the proper installers but for now they could install as they have in the past.

Of course, there could be other issues that Milviz is aware of particular to their situation.

Bummer - I love their Cessna310.

I didn't read anything out of it.... just that they aren't making new installers yet.  Maybe a wording difference.  I don't even know what you mean by "basically stuffed." hehe  But I'm just a silly yank!   :Tounge:

With the changes to the core folder structure, this shouldn't come as a surprise for users of complex add-ons. VRS is essentially saying the same thing while being a bit more vocal about LM releasing product they (LM) know will need to be updated in short order.

I don't think they are stuffing anyone. They were probably just as blind sided as anyone else with the new version coming out of nowhere. You can't expect them to have their products ready on the spot. Besides, P3D is a commercial sim, and Milviz makes entertainment products, so it's not like LM is going to support them in any way.

I think that's Collin, he always 'sounds' like that. No need to worry. ;)

Sounds like a smart move to me by Miliviz being as there are sure to be a few updates.  Also why I am waiting to purchase.

Its nothing intended to offend. Just the personality of the writer. Should have delegated to someone else to write it. Not uncommon, and doesn't affect the quality of their products.

Since people already are flying A2A planes in v3 I do wonder if aircraft require more than just the right path added to the installer. A2A is already talking about costs of making planes v3 compatible while they already seem to be compatible. Just not simply installable. Compared to other planes A2A aircrafts are quite complicated and if those already work... So I wonder why the wait for hot fixes. Or are Milviz planes even more complicated?

I have no A2A products, but I venture that if you hacked the install into V3 and it didn't work, then A2A would probably not be much help. That is normal support procedures for most software companies. There are supported configurations and unsupported configurations with any software. Sometimes the distinction seems very arbitrary but is there for business reasons that the user may not understand.
