Framerate Question...

Recommended Posts

Without starting a huge 30fps is perfectly fine argument, I have a question for those of you who know more about programming than myself.  As some of you know, DCS World 1.5 dropped yesterday.  I was on the hoggit subreddit and there is a thread posted on average framerate improvements people are seeing.  I have say, the results are spectacular to say the least!

Looking at the data, I am curious what DCS did that LM did not.

I'm guessing that DCS did things which Lockheed and/or Microsoft have probably already done... further optimize their coding. There will come a point in DCS's life when such optimizations and new versions produce only negligible performance improvements, if any.... much like where we're at with more mature platforms like FSX, P3D, and X-Plane.

DCS was released over 10 years ago though, if you count LOMAC.

The #1 thing that DCS did that LM did not do is... LIMITED THEATER OF OPERATION.   You are only getting a very small section of land compared to the entire planet that P3D/FSX provides.  That limited bordered box you play in does not require the same resources that a globally aware product does, at least that is my humble guess.   Their code is indeed optimized I am sure but it does not have to push the same kind of data as FSX/P3D does.
