Where the hell did my performance go?

Recommended Posts

So recently I fired up FSX to find that all of a sudden I'm having ~7fps less than before under same conditions, making the sim unplayable at payware airports. I'm running Win10 Home with the latest Nvidia driver. Has this happened to anyone else??

EDIT: Okay, never ever let Win10 or Geforce experience update your gpu driver... still don't get the desired performance but fps are at least back up to something over 20.

I'm not a fan of automatic updates, especially for hardware drivers.  When you have hardware drivers that are stable and perform well, you don't mess with them.  I learned that lesson the hard way.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Try deleting your FSX.CFG file, and FSX will rebuild it when it starts again.  Be sure to replace necessary entries for your system such as HighMemfix, etc.

Hope this helps you.

I learned a long time ago to never, ever, update any driver unless there is some sort of problem that need to be fixed. Letting Windows, or anything else, do automatic or recommended driver updates is simply courting disaster. Sooner or later everyone will regret it.
