March 22, 201610 yr Ok fine, let us who think it is a problem and "want to be right" discuss it then. Apparently you have nothing of importance to contribute with, even though both Active Sky developers and REX work to come up with fixes to remove "Popcorn clouds" (read their update logs for instance). Wouldn't think they worked to fix such a thing if it didn't exist? Don't answer that question by the way... Brynjar Mauseth
March 22, 201610 yr real clouds do form small clusters as the photos above show, its just P3D does it badly, I have to dunk my biscuit into this mug of tea and say that I don't like the way these cloud types are displayed either. No cloud in history has divided as many people as the popcorn variety.
March 22, 201610 yr It doesn't matter. You may not like the appearance... and that's fine... but that doesn't mean it's actually broken. To try to look at this objectively, I go back to my question - what changed at the point where the masses of popcorn clouds started to appear where larger, more homogeneous clouds used to appear before (as per FSX)? The choice of culprits can't be that big given that the major modules involved will be the cloud renderers in P3D and the weather engine and the data that it is being given. The implication that you are giving is that either nothing has changed or that something was actually originally broken and now it is fixed but we are assuming it's broken. Until someone actually explains how it actually works it's no surprise that people assume it's broken.
March 22, 201610 yr Commercial Member Oh... I don't recall saying whether I liked it or not. Someone asked why it wasn't fixed yet. I simply pointed out... it's not broken. Only L-M can actually do something about this... by rewriting the entire cloud rendering system from scratch. Something I would like to see. But it's still not broken. March 22, 201610 yr It has been already a huge discussion here for V2.5: http://www.avsim.com/topic/464547-popcorn-clouds-continue-in-2512944/ Seems that nothing has change or what do you think? Would like to see clouds like in FSX than the V3 would almost be perfect for me! If you don't like popcorns, so don't go to cinema!!!. If you don't like P3Dv3, go back to P3Dv1 or even the dinosaur FSX. March 22, 201610 yr Can you provide some information on when you see the popcorn clouds? (Date, time, location, altitude, etc.) That way, I can check my setup.
March 22, 201610 yr I had this issue in 2.5 but have not noticed it yet in 3.2. What specific weather settings or cloud texture sets do you see this in? Although it may not be linked to that at all. I use ASN and REX TD both. It's fascinating though the number of people here who tell you to essentially go sc**w yourself instead of posting any helpful advice or observations. Duly noted, I will go back to fsx if I ever encounter any more problems with P3D. I wonder what this forum is for then. I once again applied the tweeks supplied by Richard in a different topic a long time ago. These tweaks changes the size and apperance of clouds. Helped me to say it at least. http://www.avsim.com/topic/472632-ideal-flight-weather/ Also, I reactivated REX Overdrive, selected the clouds I wanted, then went to Rex Soft Clouds and selected the clouds I wanted there - BAM, beautiful clouds, at least low-level clouds. High level clouds are still subject to the popcorn-cloud debate. Brynjar Mauseth
March 23, 201610 yr Which ones did you select in REX Overdrive? As Soft Clouds are low level are they not?
March 23, 201610 yr Which ones did you select in REX Overdrive? As Soft Clouds are low level are they not? Doesnt matter what you select in Rex Overdrive (I think). When you select textures in Soft Clouds they will anyways replace low cloud textures from REX OD. Brynjar Mauseth
March 23, 201610 yr Doesnt matter what you select in Rex Overdrive (I think). When you select textures in Soft Clouds they will anyways replace low cloud textures from REX OD. Then surely the action of doing anything in REX OD is pointless as it will be overwritten by the Soft Clouds?
March 23, 201610 yr Then surely the action of doing anything in REX OD is pointless as it will be overwritten by the Soft Clouds? No it changes high level cloud textures. Look at this page. http://www.avsim.com/topic/464547-popcorn-clouds-continue-in-2512944/page-7 Truth be told - it worked better in 2.5 - 3.0 than it does in 3.2. Could be placebo of course. Low level clouds look very good on my setup, at least when standing on the ground: However, once I get airborne it looks like this Terrible... ...like lumps of popcorn Brynjar Mauseth

And yes, that is exactly what I see with REX4 with Soft Clouds and ASN. I have REX Ess+, so am going to give that a go for cloud textures instead and see what I get.
