Apart from my video card, which is now ancient by gaming/siming standards, is it yet worth a mobo and cpu upgrade?

I understand a newer cpu will allow for PCIe v3, but my current cpu is running comfortably at 4.7ghz

I've pretty much lost touch with current specs and trends.

I'm in the process of switching from FSX to P3Dv3 too.

When I bought my current i7 2700k it was pretty much 'THE' cpu for overclocking for FSX.

What's todays cpu for FSX/P3D and is it about to change any time soon?

Any feedback MUCH appreciated!

Short answer go for it!

I just upgraded from a 2600k @ 4.8 to a 4690k @ 4.8 and it is smoother for sure. Night and Day no. but you would be going from 2600k to 6700k which will be even more of a jump, plus much faster ram as it uses DDR4.

Another benefit would be a M.2 x4 slot. Buy one of these new capable SSD's and install P3D on there, it will load very quick.

I'll be building a 6700k system shortly.

6700k

Evga GTX 980ti KINGPIN

16 GB G.Sill Ripjaw V DDR4

I won't be going for M.2, I'm jumping straight to an Intel 750 U.2. Blisteringly fast.
