Fatal error on p3d launch after upgrading to 980ti from 780ti

Recommended Posts

Hello, after installing my new graphics card I am no longer able to start p3d and get a fatal error. I used guru3d driver uninstaller to remove old drivers before Installing the newest drivers for the 980. After the installation completed, I started p3d and got the fatal error. I removed prepar3d.cfg to let it rebuild but did not fix the issue.. I then completely removed all the files from the appdata/roaming/lockheedmartin/prepar3d v3 folder as well as everything from appdata/roaming/LockheedMartin/prepar3d v3/shaders folder. I think that made it work, I was able to restart p3d few times without problems (I had trouble with some scenery) and the error is now back.

Thank you for any help.

The kernelbase.dll error is usually caused by a bad install of video card drivers or an issue with your drivers.  Perhaps that program that uninstalls graphics drivers completely caused the problem.  Make sure you right click the video card installer and select run as administrator.

The AVSIM CTD Guide has more information about the kernelbase.dll error on page 13.  Link to guide is in my signature.

Hi jim, thanks for your response. I have uninstaller the drivers from programs and features list, restarting when asked.. I then installed the newest drivers using clean install. But the crash still happens. I am going to uninstall p3d and do a complete reload. Although I did the repair install without success.

I doubt this is a P3D issue.  The kernelbase.dll is a system file.  Moving or deleting the p3d.cfg is the same as reinstalling P3D (same w/FSX too).  I once did an uninstall of my nvidia drivers a couple of years ago and it was a major, major mistake and I ended up reinstalling my OS.  Back then they did not have this uninstaller going around the Internet for uninstalling your display drivers.  I just cleaned the registry and deleted some known NVidia files in the System32 folder and then I tried to reinstall the NVidia drivers again and it mostly failed.  That's why I think there's a registry entry or file that is no longer there that your system is looking for when you are running an application like P3D.
